When Kliff Kingsbury departed USC after a month as its offensive coordinator, sources told us he recommended the Trojans pursue North Texas OC Graham Harrell and they listened. Although we reported Harrell was the top priority to repalce Kingsbury, Jedd Fisch of the Los Angeles Rams and others were also a candidates.

It's stupid. On the college level offenses are all the rage yet offense doesn't win championships. Have to have offense no question but those that can make a stop when it matters win. The air raid has never and will never wins title, at least not with the TT model. USC is hoping their ability to attract defensive talent overcomes that but what has that defensive talent done for them thus far?

The Dollar General version of Kliff is better than no Kliff I guess

Talent's not been the problem, it's been shitty coaching. If this one ends up staying more than a couple of weeks, it's a good thing for USC.

well this thread is about the USC offensive coordinator hire
should USC hire a guy who will produce less?

Wrong. Once or twice every 10 years you have a defensive team with a ship? The last time in the NFL was the Ravens in 2012 and I can't remember if it ever happened in college.

North Texas OC Graham Harrell has emerged as a strong candidate for the #USC OC vacancy but reports of a done deal are not accurate, sources tell me.

Talent level at SC is down. It is NOT just scheme.

Incorrect. The Air Raid won the title in 2000.

Your first sentence is incorrect, you second sentence is spot on. The talent is there, but it's raw talent that is not being developed. The S&C coach is a joke, Helton calling plays is a joke (Hopefully Harrell will fix that) and Neill Callaway was terrible at both coaching and developing O-linemen. Chuma Edoga was a 5 star prospect who was infamous for shirking practice and "just getting by" at SC, but he's killing it at Senior Bowl because he's being coached up. Trust me on this one, I know of what I speak.

Right. Harrell was a solid quarterback for Tech, and a great high school QB at Ennis. His father, Sam Harrell, was a long time successful high school head coach.
I am not sure how he will do at USC, but they could have done worse.

They won because Flacco went scorched earth in the playoffs.
The last team to truly be carried by defense to the Super Bowl was the 2015 Broncos.

I din't realize SC had hired Neil Callaway. It's worse than I thought.
Good luck on the Harrell hire, that would be the best choice of a tough situation. If he takes the job, SC football will get very interesting.

Harrell to Crabtree against Texas in 08 might be my favorite play from the last couple of decades.

He was fired midway through last season. Helton's sacrifice (he and Calloway are buds) to keep his job. Wish he hadn't kept it.
