Unrealistic Dark Horse candidate: Wisconsin DC Jim Leonhard

He has Wisconsin’s defense absolutely humming this year. Bucky ranks number 1 in the nation in rushing defense (49.6 ypg) and total defense (214.6 ypg) LINK
3-time all-American in college, 9 year NFL vet, 2017 Broyles Award finalist
He studied under former Wisconsin DC Dave Aranda and Wisconsin DB coach Daronte Jones LINK
A Wisconsin lifer, but an intriguing and fun thought. Perhaps LSU is too big a step for him, but he may not be much longer amongst the assistant coaching ranks

The frick is with Wisconsin and having great DCs?

Wisco football is known for two things: a punishing ground-and-pound attack led by huge corn-fed Midwestern tractor pushers and a great RB or two, and and an erudite, calculated game plan that masks their deficiencies. It’s just a culture up there

As HC? No, he won't be interested.
As DC? lolzzzzzz No chance in hell. He turned down the Packers.
btw-Rex Ryan called him a coach on the field. He sat in with Aranda some one summer as I recall to learn what college offenses were doing.

If we can ever get another decent QB to get the pass game going UW will be dangerous as hell. Maybe Mertz will get there one day.
The one year we had Wilson our D sucked.

Can’t even imagine him trying to recruit in Louisiana.

Great take. Seems like it usually translates to their basketball team as well, I've always been impressed with both programs. edit - also, we could do alot worse than Jim Leonhard

Probably a wet dream, but in terms of recruiting he can sit in a recruit's living room and tell him what it takes to start and make the pros....because he did it. Saban never did it, Riley never did it, Aranda never did it. But Leonhard did it and did it the hard way. Walked on at Wisconsin..
Made all Big 10 and All America. Went pro as a UDFA and spent 10 years in the league. Honestly if you were to build a program a 40 year old guy with that resume and a DC of the top collegiate defense is what you want.

Never missed a beat when Aranda left either. Just got better.

Do you expect Chryst gets pushed our for him at some point? Like a Martz situation.

He would be the guy that would concern Saban. He is the only guy out there that really has minimal negatives.

Hell be a G5 HC soon (maybe lower p5) or an NFL DC. I don't think he'll leave for another p5 DC gig.
He's a great coach for sure

He’s a pure X’s and O’s guy, even Aranda has better recruiting pulls than him.

This is an out there candidate that would be too big of a risk for sure, but he’s recruiting at Wisconsin. They’re not exactly pulling 4 and 5 star players on the regular up there regardless of who is there. They’ve always had to do more with less. You can’t really judge how good of a recruiter the guy is based off of his time at Wisconsin.

He's the guy Nebraska needs to hire when Frost ultimately gets fired.

Good hires and playing the weak half of a shitty offensive Conference.

How does a Whisky fan find his way to a LSU board? Just curious. I like your guys team. Always coaches up well and playing disciplined football. That concept has been lost.

I would not call him a dark horse because he was on everyone's list and I believe he is a Wisc homer that has stated so and is HCIW and does not want to go elsewhere.
But yes he is high on a lot of people's list.

Nebraska did it much, much better. Wisconsin’s “culture” is still relatively new, and began with Barry Alvarez.
