Anyone who takes the UNC job will likely get more NIL guarantees than Mack had. If that happens this is a great job.
Schumann can stay at UGA for a few more seasons and be in play for the Bama job when it opens again.

I think Sumrall is setting himself up to have the pick of the litter for a big SEC job. LSU/OU/Florida, hell maybe even Bama could all be open over the next couple of years.

don’t know know if Schumann makes sense for this one.
You obviously know Schumann better than I do. I would think UNC would be a good job for a top coordinator with no SEC jobs opening. Relatively low expectations at UNC, and if you do well, you have a solid path to the ACCCG.
Regarding Arthur Smith, he's an interesting choice. Not a great head coach in the NFL, because he can't develop a QB. But, I'm a big fan of his run schemes and OL development. But is UNC the place to install some road graders? Can he recruit? I think he's purely an NFL guy, but if I'm a UNC fan, this is a name I'm going to really be interested in.

Yeah, unless they have a major change in commitment, I can say that is an upgrade for those guys. Lea is iffy, but I would rather be in Nashville is Vandy commits to the program.

Go after guys that bigger teams will want, until you're not a stepping stone to UNC, you're a stepping stone to Ohio State or LSU.
Tulane would have to draw a lot more fans per game to get to that level

LSU is not opening in the next couple
of years
of years

Yeah 2 years max and LSU will be open. I think we’ll be open too.

Arthur Smith also brings the Fed Ex NIL checkbook

In the past when things like this happen, there is a tendency to switch gears and go after guys that will stay at Tulane. That's the wrong way obviously.

You do realize that Tulane hired Sumrall after Fritz left? I don't think Tulane expects Sumrall to be there for a lifetime. I believe that the athletic department is starting to listen to certain donors now that in the past Tulane wouldn't even have entertained them.
If Sumrall stays another year and keeps things rolling it will be a very attractive job for up and coming coaches. Even if Sumrall left after this season it's still in a good spit to hire a good coach.

This job would be more Brian Kelly’s speed

alot of you are delusional if you think Sumrall would turn down UNC to stay at Tulane. going to UNC does not prevent him from landing a future SEC job down the road, smarten up folks

The high school talent in NC isn't setting the world on fire.
The SEC East and Clemson have been poaching NC talent forever. They all get spread out amongst all the NC schools and southeast.

I believe that the poster was saying that Tulane should keep hiring guys like Sumrall. Hire them from smaller programs and eventually a bigger program will hire them.

Only problem is that he brings Arthur Smith with it.

Better to stay at Tulane and wait for big SEC job just like Kirby turned down lower SEC jobs until Georgia opened up.

Willie Fritz turned down Power jobs. Chris Peterson stayed with Boise St for 8 season before he left.
Going to North Carolina may not prevent him from getting an SEC job down the road but also staying at Tulane wouldn't prevent him either. He could stay at Tulane until the school/situation he finds attractive opens up.
I don't think or expect Sumrall to stay at Tulane long term. He might think North Carolina is a great opening/situation he might want to wait for Kentucky to open up.
Tulane is in a better situation now to win consistently than it was 10 years ago where a coach doesn't have to take the first opening to get out of a bad situation.

I don't think that UNC is much better than Iowa State in some ways, but Campbell better start planning his escape from Ames before he gets stuck there.
Plus, much better winters in Chapel Hill than in Ames.

UNC is going to return to the cellar, and they’ll deserve it for having kicked their winningest head coach ever to the curb.
