I saw the same. I'm not convinced they could do better. Who would you recommend?

Yeah, ASU isn't much of step up... almost a lateral move at this point with SMU going to the Big East... Not saying the Big East is as good as the PAC 12, SMU just has a better chance to dominate that conference in the next few years (given that recruiting improves due to being in a BCS conference).
If anything, I think it's a play on his part for more money, which I don't see how much more he could want out of a team like SMU. Isn't he making somewhere in the range of 1-1.5 for a CUSA team as it stands today?

Why hire an old guy?
that's really really dumb for a program looking for long term rebuilding and stability

ASU isn't really looking for this. They have the talent to win the Pac-12 right now

completely shitty hire IMO.

I'm wondering how insufferable the SMU boosters are if he's seriously considering it.
People on this board suggested years ago that Jones to SMU would fail because the money guys would insist that he's "all hat no cattle", despite taking freaking Hawaii to a BCS bowl, and refuse to let him have sufficient control.

Isn't Jones about Saban's/Spurrier's age? Early 60's?

You like it for UW, or ASU?

He is 58.
58 is the new 51.

He turned around Hawaii in a huge way (very limited resources) and SMU. Not a bad hire at all. Wash. St. did better though.

Seems done...
