Do AD changes qualify for the coaching changes board?

Who do yall think would be a good hire for the greenies? I have been lurking the 2 greenies board (and I thought the rant was crazy , those ppl are more cray cray than a Jersey stripper on her period) and the top 3 candidates that anyone has mentioned are (in no particular order):
1. Barbara Burke: former Wyoming and Eastern Illinois AD and current Tulane COO.
2. Scott Sidwell: Tulane alum, worked in the Tulane AD for 2 years in the early 00s, assistant AD at Syracuse, and current AD at University of San Francisco.
3. Arnie Feldco.
4. Someone that "the experts" have no clue about.

I think that they will ultimately go with option #4, but of the 3 names that have been mentioned I think Sidwell would be the best choice.
Pros:
He is fairly young
Tulane alum and former Tulane baseball player
Great fundraiser
Those 3 are very important for a school with an alumni base that is so spread out and a school that needs funds for the facility upgrades that Tulane needs to be competitive and even have a 1% chance of ever being P5.
Worked at Syracuse which is now a P5 school in one of the 2 conferences that Tulane could ever hope to join.
Cons:
USF doesn't have football and so he doesn't have a record of hiring coaches
He has the RD and Scott Cowen stank on him.
It gives the impression that they are still Tulane and haven't changed and Tulane is still considering athletics small time.

I feel confident Tulane will make a solid politically correct decision.

Warde Manuel

Home town boy with a great pedigree. Intelligent and a hell of an athlete. You could do a LOT worse.

Played DL for Brother Martin High School then Michigan in the late 1980's.

their problems start at the top...

quote:

I've been through and hired five athletic directors at Tulane and not a one is comparable to Rick Dickson," said Bill Goldring, a longtime member of Tulane's board of trustrees.

quote:

"Tulane has some inherent challenges that other schools don't," Goldring said. "Tulane is not hiring people at the Nick Saban level. We can't compete with LSU."

What did he say there that was factually incorrect?
1. Tulane can't hire Nick Saban or Les Miles type coaches and Tulane is not going to hire an Alleva away from a school like Duke. Tulane is a small private G5 FBS school. The idea that Tulane can compete with LSU is comical at best.
2. Tulane does have challenges that other univerisities don't have. It's alumni base is spread out, it is a small private school, since Katrina Tulane has spent over $125million and its facilities (other than the Hertz center, and Glazer club) are still inadequate, and it is landlocked. It also has a culture of secretacy that drives fans and donors insane, and it also some of the striciest transfer rules for JUCOs of any school in FBS.
3. RD might not have been able to hire a coach to save his life, but the man could fund raise. That is the one thing that a school like Tulane can never have too much of. Tulane doesn't have the benefits of a $30+million/yr tv contract like LSU or the access to state tax dollars like ULL or LaTech. So he was right there are issues.
4. He is a 100% right Tulane's can't compete with LSU or Bama, and if it tries too it will fail everytime. Now that doesn't mean it should never play them or try to win, it just means you have to find your own way to do it. Did David fight Goliath the way Goliath wanted him too? Did Eisenhower invade Europe where Hitler wanted him too? No they did not.
5. Tulane needs to hire a semi-young AD that can raise money like it was growing on trees. Even at LSU or Bama the AD is a fundraiser first and foremost. Since Tulane's alumni base is so spread out the AD has to be on the road alot (I read in one articel where RD said he spent more nights on the road than at home) they also need to keep Burke or replace her with someone of the new AD's choosing to run the day to day operations. Tulane also needs to do away that culture of secretacy and not talking abour projects until they almost funded. Hell it took Tech 4 years to raise the money for their new athletics complex, but they were out creating the buzz and that had to help with recruiting. Tulane also needs to get rid of that JUCO transfer policy.

So Goldring is right. Tulane fans need to realize that they can't compete with LSU, but they can be the uncontested #2 and could be a G5 power year in and year out.

They shouldn't try to compete with LSU, at least in football.

The Buffalo AD that is a NOLA native would also be a good choice. Danny White Buffalo AD.

Very good choice, and having gone to school there, with how many kids they have from NY I think it would be a homerun hire.

Rick Jones should be the hire, but everyone knows Tulane will frick it up and Barbara Burke gets the job.

Why? He was a good baseball coach who ended up having a mini breakdown. He is notoriously moody.

If they can get Fielkow or Sidwell (both apparently want the job) instead, Tulane would be crazy not to hire either. Both are excellent administrators who know how to schmooze and raise money.

what? no.

Jones is a highly intelligent guy and, having been involved in the program for over 20 years, knows what a winning program across multiple sports at Tulane looks like from the inside. He is dedicated to athletics and would have his focus on giving the programs what they need to have any chance to thrive. The cold shoulder that Tulane has given their athletics is why the program and product are a joke right now.

It's all moot because everyone knows Burke came to Tulane as the AD in waiting.

So Buffalo has had 2 successive NOLA natives as AD. LOL

I did not know that.

Well Burke did make the only decent hire for Tulane in recent memory (the baseball coach) and when she was the AD at Wyoming and EIU they published the names of all the finalist for their coaching jobs. She also ran an athletic department that was very open and honest with its fans (according to the internet). Those are 2 areas where Toolame needs desperate improvements in.
