I must've missed all those USCe coaches who have done better than that.

Why not go for Tom Herman? If I'm Auburn that's not a bad choice; seems better than some of the names I've seen rumored.

You think Tom Herman is better than Mario Cristobal? For Auburn?

It really is an attractive job for a "family man" type coach.

I didn't like the Shane Beamer hire, but Beamer is definitely a family man. Culturally, Beamer is a good fit at SC on paper.

Herman would be an awful fit based on his behavior at Texas. He would fail at SC.

Beamer also brings an impressive 'advisory board', including his dad, that he'll have on speed dial - 24/7/365

I would like to respectfully disagree with da poster that said USCe is a desireable coaching destination. USCe is a quick trip to an early coaching grave right now for the following reasons:
1) in state rival Clemson is top 3 elite program right now getting movies made by Disney+ to further clinch resource and recruiting advantage.
2) Georgia recruiting well in area.
3) Florida running good even with dbag cry baby coach.

Its not a very good time to coach dem cocks. You could get paid well for maybe 3 or 4 years but you will be leaving looking for a smaller job.

No. He was interested in coming here.

Then he saw how shitty we were and how much of a rebuild would be needed when we lost to the Citadel. He was onto Texas not long after.

I have no interest in a guy that somehow thought he'll have an easy time here and doesn't want to deal with the challenges of the job.

Ridiculous. Most coaches - especially ones that come into the SEC- know it's going to be a tough schedule and a tough recruiting job.

If a school has enough money, good facilities, is in a solid recruiting area, and will give the guy enough leeway and resources to hire guys he wants, that's all most coach could want or ask for and we have all of that. It's just about being paired up with the right guy.

As I've said before on this board: If there is a silver lining to all of Clemson's success it shows that we can do it. They are the smaller school, with less fans, and less money. If they can do it, we can.

If Herman won 63% of his games at South Carolina like he's done in Austin, he'd be a hero.

1) He wouldn't win 63% of his games here if he only wins 63% of his games at Texas.
2) That spurt that Spurrier had from 2010-2013 changed the attitude here with all those top 10 finishes. Not only did a lot more resources start getting put into the program but that it shows that it can be done here. We were routinely waxing UGA, UF, and Clemson by double digits and were far and away the best team in the division. There are no more "yay we have a coach that is 7-5/6-6 every year!" attitudes.

That's a great point. I've always felt Carolina is a bit of a sleeping giant. I doubt you'll ever be on the level that Clemson’s at, but you should be able to compete for the east title on a consistent basis.

I also think Clemson hugely benefited from its 2 biggest rivals - us and FSU - collapsing in on themselves within a couple of years.

I don't doubt Clmeson would still be great, but I think if FSU could've maintained where they had been for 30 years and if we could've maintained what we were for those 5 years then I think we could have delivered Clemson at least 1 or even 2 more losses per year which would have kept them out of the CFP which in turn would've helped stem their recruiting a bit.

Again, kudos to them. They were already really good before FSU and South Carolina collapsed but they more than took advantage to become a juggernaut that does allow them to compete and beat the Bamas and OSUs of the world.

Disagree.

There are NO bad Power-5 coaching jobs. Tough ones, sure. Bad ones, no. He's getting 2.5 mil for doing a job he loves.

If everything goes to hell, he can find a gig at the bottom of the ladder for a couple hundred grand a year.

He is now 'in the club'. Congrats to Shane and his proud parents.

He’s a low rent dumpster fire of a human that I wouldn’t want anywhere near my program. Plenty out there about it and even more behind the scenes.

If he can’t do it at Texas with all the resources at his disposal he would fail miserably at usce

Mac Brown took years off then shows up at North Carolina inheriting a team coming off a train wreck season and really has something building already. Way more promising then his final years at Texas.

I think they're are done strange things going on at Texans that can't all be put on the head coach.

Strong and Herman were both as strong of up and coming coaches as you could pull from the group of 5 level and Strong failed miserably and Herman has only had a few glimpses here and there.

Something went down at the end with the program under Mack Brown not related to Mack Brown and has continued on.

Clearly from his prior record at Texas and North Carolina and what's he's done since at North Carolina it's not a Mack Brown problem.

That said yeah Herman probably fails at South Carolina. Everyone who has ever coached at South Carolina not named Steve Spurrier fails at South Carolina

But if he actually wants out at Texas it might be an interesting pairing at Auburn

Being the Texas football coach is a political nightmare for any coach that goes there. Few are equipped to handle it. So many big money guys that think because their name is on the facilities they bought the right to tell the coach who should play and threaten to stop the gravy train if you don’t bend the knee.

It’s definitely a sausage making situation I randomly got an inside look at by sitting next to some dude on a flight who had some experience inside the athletic department.

you ain't seen meddling boosters until you've seen the UT big wigs. They have their heads so far up their own asses they can't see the light of day

There is no reason UT shouldn't be doing what Bama is doing right now other then poor management by the athletic department and its alumni group

You have to deal with all their Longhorn Network obligations, their boosters, their political people, the arrongance...

UT had Saban in the bag, but Mack Brown used his political connections to stymie the move. Mack did not want his legacy overshadowed by Saban. He also hates Saban. Mack divided the alumni and used his connections in UT politics to stall the saban hiring to the point where nick said frick it, im staying at bama with a fat raise. It's like they've got 10 Jerry Jones types all putting their fingers in the pie
