The reality of the situation is that the smoke did leak to the national scene, to the point it had to be commented on by respected media players. A bad look is a bad look. You have to change the narrative.

Why do the optics look bad exactly? They can't control the rumor mongering of the fan base and that is really all the Riley talk was. If Woodward already had his coach and he's coaching in a conference championship game, what exactly is he supposed to do? Go against someones wishes to not announce until after that game? We always knew it could be after next weekend before an announcement was made, so what the frick has changed? Jesus, you people are fricking insufferable. It wasn't Riley so everyone fricking panic.

The point being even if woodward has his coach and we are just waiting, the situation right now looks bad and you have to do something to divert the attention. He's not doing that. Whether you attribute the stoops leaks to him or not, you can throw SOMETHING out there to get the spotlight off of LSU getting beat out by USC, even if that's not fundamentally true

It's not just optics with USC, its optics with the college football landscape. See the citizen decommit- even if its not directly attributed to that. You cant tell me that maintaining a polished image isn't important.

I agree that getting the right coach is more important than any recruiting decision, but are you acting like that timing isn't telling? Florida, USC all had openings and bagged their man. Certainty is important. Even if it's not a hire, throw some info out there.

Ok....What is he supposed to say then? Don't worry we have have our coach already? It wouldn't change anything because everyone has already made up their mind that he got played even if that isn't the case. He could have moved on from Riley weeks ago for all we know and we're waiting on the coach that is coming to be done with his season. Every bit of this is because this fan base latched onto some bad information from insiders on this site and it took off like wildfire and never was accurate. Then they start bitching and complaining because they didn't get the coach that was rumored, and not it's this whole we need information push. If they announce before a coach is ready, then you'll lose them as well. I guess they'd have their information though.
