The blowout loss to a mediocre Texas team was particularly impressive.

The fact we're surprised that ULL lost to Texas by 20 shows you how far Napier has brought ULL.

I'm surprised the next Saban couldn't make it a more competitive game.

"Checks all the boxes"? Didn't see the box labeled " won the Sun Belt". At last count, & I've stopped counting, this is the 9th thread assuring us all who the next HC will be. I'm sure his name, and resume', will resonate with recruits across the country. If he's considered a home run hire, he must be playing T ball.

Jerry Dinardo put an arse whipping on Saban’s Michigan State squad in a bowl game. Even great coaches lose at times.

Orgeron was contractually forced to keep coaches and was hired on the basis of getting Kiffin or allowing the AD to hire the best OC possible.

No, O was hired because he said he would do those things.

That was his pitch to Alleva.

That’s how he got the jobs

You can’t retcon his original story to being handcuffed from the get go.

And if Alleva Hired Canada, what did O do?

Fought and undermined the guy till it blew up.

Yeah, okay.

If you think O had the power to fire Aranda then you’re dead fricking wrong.

Saban coached 5 seasons at Mich St before LSU hired him and only one time won more than 7 games. He was also 0-3 in bowl games. Younger Saban sucked as a coach by your standard.

ULL recruiting classes under Napier

2018 - 105 (improved from 121)
2019 - 77
2020 - 82
2021 - 69 (nice)

Texas:

2018 - 3
2019 - 3
2020 - 8
2021 - 15

Despite that, ULL 1) held Texas to its lowest home point total of the season and 2) trailed only by 9 late in the third.

He's overachieving big time with the talent and resources he has.

Outside of Napier's first season, the Texas game his biggest loss at ULL (20 points). Before that his only other double digit losses were by 10 (twice).

I’m not defending O. I’m saying he was forced to keep his word. He was absolutely forced to keep Aranda whether he wanted to or not and was not allowed to pick an OC until after the Canada debacle.

But that's the true measure of a G5 coach, no? The truly brilliant up and coming coaches at the G5 schools find ways to beat the Power 5 teams with better talent and more resources.

Year 4 of Napier and they weren't even really competitive against a completely mediocre Texas team. Not to mention they beat Nicholls by 3 and barely held on against South Alabama to win by 2 points.

ULL is dangerously close to being 3-3 this year.

You say that but you'll be the first one questioning the hire if he loses a game like MSST

I would imagine we go for a bigger name knowing Woodward. Not saying he's not a good coach, just seen guys like him not pan out like everyone thought they would on the big stage

At a consistent basis? If so, can you provide examples?

We hired Nick Saban with a 34-24-1 record at Michigan State and he turned out to be the GOAT. Honestly just want a solid coach who can recruit + build a strong program. We’ll provide everything else.

Eta: honestly not even a Napier fan but find the thought of him at a powerhouse interesting.
