re: The more I think about Aranda

My biggest concern with Aranda is that Smith and Roy walk because they don’t want to eat blocks in his defense.
You gotta break some eggs to make an omelet but he almost exclusively relies on blitzes and BOLB to get pressure consistently

If LSU passes on Aranda, it won't be long before they regret it when another big SEC school scoops him up and locks him down for years.
Yeah, he's not the flashy hire but the guy is virtually drama free, highly cerebral, has a detail oriented approach comparable to Saban (but seems to be far less resistant to change and adaptation than N$), has an absolutely brilliant defensive mind (which I truly believe a long term HC should have), develops his players into monsters, and just automatically receives respect from his coworkers. You can't find anyone who offers anything but praise for Dave.
He's not Petersen or Riley or Meyer or Rhule, but I think he's hands down the best choice in the long run. Look how his 2019 defense took care of several teams whose coaches get drooled over when mentioned in this search...

Could not agree more with every word of that post.

If Aranda will commit to wearing a visor, I'm in. Tough ask for a chrome dome, but he needs to get the swagger up for croots.

Absolutely. He and Ensminger.

I fluctuate among Aranda, Tucker, and Napier. I would not mind Riley.
Aranda again is number one with me right now because of the “lock down one side of the ball” motif. His defenses are great. Just because a head coach has been a coordinator does not mean one side of the ball is assured the way Aranda could lock down the defense.

I would be thrilled with Aranda

He's the anti-Ed, exactly what the program needs.

Are you joking?
You don't think Aranda will bring new ideas to a program run by a sub-85 IQ coach? Who has had 2 years to build the D in his own image, aka, destroying everything Aranda did?
People forget what an amazing job Aranda did with the 2017 and 2018 defenses, which likely saved O's job. I forget what year it was, but one of those years we effectively had 4 D-lineman who could contribute.

It’s not just on-field things I’m talking about. Aranda would not come in and change much about the structure or processes of the program.

Rmnldr, why do you say that? Is it a case of striking out on the big fish/ not wanting to wait til after playoffs and Aranda’s the highest tier 2 candidate, or do you feel Scott saw Aranda up close and thinks he’s the reason we won in 2019?
Aranda and Napier have always been up Scott’s sleeve since last year. They put bait in the water and saw what they could get and talked with a lot of candidates through their agents and have settled down on just a handful.
Scott has seen Aranda and Napier up close. He’s a big fan of both of them.
And, O had legitimate complaints about Aranda’s play calling but O’s stupidity was about underestimating Aranda’s effective teaching, his system, and the simplicity of it to where anyone could come in and learn it.
Aranda knew what his defense’s weaknesses were each year and played to mask them and did so. The 2019 offense did that defense no favors.
So to sum it up, yeah, Aranda and Ensminger held LSU together f

What Nick Saban implemented and what every coach since has done to diminish it in their own ways since.
Les created the NFLSU 3&out culture which gutted the program of talent and his offensive schemes were so stubborn that it got him fired
Orgeron took his hands off the wheel and when he had to drive he showed that he never knew how to in the first place. The culture, organization, and structure of the program are in shambles right now.

Dave Aranda as HC
Tom Herman as OC
We'd be a perennial playoff contender by year 2.

Like Saban in 2000? You're telling me you knew Saban would turn into the GOAT?

Remember the ucf bowl game where we had receivers (Netherley and Kirklin) playing in the secondary

Aranda
Ron Roberts as DC (former Southeastern HC and longtime coach with Aranda going back to Delta State)
Grimes or Herman as OC (longtime friend and college roommate) Grimes could very well stay and maybe get the Baylor job.

Im riding for Aranda at this point.

He needs to finish the year strong. 10-2 is easily within reach and might put him over the top for the LSU job.

I don’t think LSU is in the business of taking risks right now , it’ll be a proven head coach , a proven winner . A big name . Not Aranda. Doug Pederson was in Shreveport yesterday but unfortunately he said he’s not interested in the LSU job.
