I don't think Kelvin Sheppard will leave the NFL for LSU or any college job. He can be inline for a NFL job if he does okay in Detroit.

If he truly has LSU HC aspirations, it would seem that he needs join the staff in some other capacity first.

I just hope we go for the best coach, not the biggest splash.

KU has underachieved the last two seasons and will very possibly miss a bowl again.

Plus he's 61, and he showed his arse a couple of weeks ago complaining about tortilla tossing at Tech, and lying about a pocket knife being thrown.

thanks for info. seems like klieman is a better coach but i think he's a defensive guy.

I think he is the guy, but he's flying way under the radar.

Legit question, why? Dont get me wrong, hes done a decent job at keeping us relevant but thats about it. We arent competing for conference championships in a vastly inferior league compared to what Norvell coached in. He recruits at a high level but i think that success has more to do with the university's commitment to football the past 10+ years. We've dumped money in to facilities and our NIL dwarfs our conference mates as well as regional G6 teams.

Hes a boring mid energy guy, puts a boring product out on the field and the coaching calls are questionable more times than not. And this is just a pet peeve of mine but the guy was an o-line coach prior but our o-lines since he has been in charge have been awful. This is the first year we have had any semblance of a run game but that is more that we have a mobile qb threat.

The guys is a 8-4, 9-3 type coach and doesnt seem to be able to take that next step. Ill be fine if we are able to keep him but honestly wont be upset if he gets hired away.

Personally, I don't want to see another spread, chuck and duck offense at LSU. I want to see hard nosed offense and defense that runs AND throws the ball. Primarily have the QB under center, use play action that actually has a chance to be effective because we CAN in fact run the ball.

I prefer a mobile qb using play action. A Kiffin offense. Also, since you are responding to my post about Chadwell, two years ago he coached the number one rushing offense in the country. Not thinking he's the guy, just saying I like the IDEA of a scheme guy from out of left field a lot more than the overpaying for a dinosaur strategy. Louisiana has too much skill to not utilize our athleticism. Berry should be a 100 yard a game guy, not an afterthought

Basing it off of OP info, this is my list in no particular order.

Lane Kiffin - Lukewarm on this one. I wanted him before we hired BK. Not sure what we get for the price.
Dan Lanning - already makes over 10mil a year. what would we be comfortable offering that doesn't put us in the same boat as before?
Jeff Brohm - Makes 6mil. I like the hire if we can get him around 7.5 maybe. Buyout at 33 seems steep if LSU is on the hook for any of it.
Kenny Dillingham - Doubtful this guy leaves ASU. At 7.5, can we afford to give him a raise? My gut is that he gets an extension to keep him there very soon.
John Sumrall - Smart money is probably here.
Rhett Lashlee - I like this one as well
Matt Campbell - Meh
Kelvin Sheppard - Does this make sense? I think you get a decent salary here but does he want to be in college?

My personal preference is to get a young(ish) fresh face who gets the fan base excited that won't cost us 10 mil a year. I do understand that a school like LSU is now in the group of probably having to get a coach at or above 10/yr but I hate the idea of it. Can we do 5 years 70/80? I'm not a fan of getting another retread from a big school who is looking for a pay day.

I like Dan Lanning, but IDK if he would be willing to leave the Ducks. He is a great coach and recruiter.

Shannon Dawson OC at Miami. Louisiana guy, 48 years old, Air Raid understudy. Came up under Holgerson and Hal Mumme (Mike Leach connection)

He has developed some great QBs and players love him.
