IMO this would be a slam dunk hire.

My "order of operations" would be:

Lincoln Riley
Mike Tomlin
Hugh Freeze

Tomlin is about to turn 50 which is crazy considering he has been around forever- I believe at this point in his career he would love to settle in at a college school and build something great for the next 15-20 years. The players would respect the hell out of him and he would kill it in recruiting. He would bring LSUs defense back to elite status quickly.

What makes you think Tomlin would downgrade to college, he's been as high as you can go professionally a couple times

You didn’t make a case for him.

Why do you think he would be good at this?

Yeah I’m sure mike tomlin would make the move from Pittsburgh fricking Steelers to coach at LSU.

And their offense is horrible.

Of course they can blame Big Ben, because he is declining. Why is Matt Canada his OC?

He does have awesome defenses though.

I prefer a college guy. Riley and Freeze are my two favorites.

Canada is calling plays with one hand tied behind his back. Roethlisberger is washed up and their offensive line is atrocious.

The one booster I have a relationship with says there is ALOT of smoke around Mike Tomlin.

He feels that the "Big Ben" Era is coming to a close and with that his semi consistent QB play he's had forever..
Everyone knows (including Tomlin) that you're only as good as your QB in the NFL and the unknown after Big Ben scares him.. He could be fired 2 years after he retires this year... After this season is the best time to jump.

I think Tomlin would be a homerun hire as unrealistic as it might be. However, what people don't want to admit is just because you have success in NFL doesn't mean you can translate that success to NCAA and vice versa. Different games. Tomlin has been away from the college game for awhile so not sure if he could handle the modern climate now. That said, it's a pipe dream.

Is Mike Tomlin a top line coach? Absolutely
Would Mike Tomlin be a great hire? Most definitely

I'd be scared too if Mason Rudolph was the heir apparent.

The Case Against Mike Tomlin: he’s not leaving a top 3 job in the NFL

The Steelers have had 3 coaches since 1969. They aren’t firing Mike Tomlin in 2 years.

Downgrade - Ogre makes almost $2 Million more a year than Tomlin who actually has been nothing short of a career success and a Top 5 coach at any level.

Yeah, it doesn't make any sense to me.

A coach shouldn't be getting out just because his QB is on his way out.

Even if the Steelers started to suck and he was fired he could easily find another NFL opening.

He just won his division last season I believe.

Now someone said the NFL is a year round grind, but I almost feel like there is far more pressure at a major college football program. You can afford losses in the NFL and you don't have to recruit.

Yeah, I don't get that either. Especially not at this point in his career. I don't see how being the HC at a major college football program is settling in or more enticing for a top 3-5 NFL coach.

Heck you can go 8-8 and sometimes make the playoffs in the NFL.

The “Big Ben is retiring” reason is hilarious to me too because Big Ben has played like he’s been retired for 3 seasons now anyway so what’s the difference? if anything Ben retiring is going to free up cap space and allow them to find a better alternative going forward. They already have one of the best defenses in the NFL, that alone will win him 8-10 games a year.

We should just keep it in State.. let’s bring up Sean Payton lmao
Please tell me that your Mike Tomlin suggestion is a weak troll attempt…smdh
