His defense was phenomenal down the stretch considering the losses we had this year. If Kelly keeps him I’ll assume he earned it - if not best of luck to him.

It is up to Coach Kelly not fans who the DC will be. If he retains Daronte then I will be happy.

You believe anything O said on the way out?

O is no Defensive genius and he took credit for everything that was going right and threw his staff under the bus for everything that wasn't.

I find it a lot easier to believe that Jones was unleashed, rather than O watched film and said "make these adjustments".

Everyone knows O is no X and O guy so stop this nonsense

Could also be he leaned on his analysts more down the stretch because his inexperienced hire was so ineffective?

I find that more believable then O was simply holding back this defensive savant and then “unleashed him” the last 3 weeks of the season.

What Kelly does with him will likely tell the story though

Yea it is a lot easier to make up some dumb narrative than to read what actually happened

And I can’t ever remember an O press conference where he didn’t say “I am responsible”. There is lots of things O did wrong that everyone can see no need to make up stories.

I was happy with Jones.

There was a distinct change in philosophy definitely past mid point in the season our D was productive and disruptive.

I honestly would be fine with the entire defensive staff being retained.

So you all believe O had more to do with the defensive improvement than the DC?

I am confident any any decision BK makes but lets not act like Jones didn't show promise in his first year as DC. He improved each game and showed an ability to effectively scheme against opponents even with a depleted roster.

I agree there are numerous solid hires that we can make but if BK keeps him I will have no problem with it.

All I would guarantee Jones is an interview

all of the sudden the dumb shrimp boat captain became a top tier DC in the last three weeks - a trait he never exhibited in his entire career and everyone’s like ‘Hey iT MAkEs SeNSe 2 ME! - HE SAid so HiMSelf in A PreSs COnFerENce!’

Look hire Daronte - don’t hire Daronte.. whatever but using an O quote as proof positive that Daronte doesn’t know what he’s doing just doesn’t make sense.

Did you miss the part where the analyst had the blitzes?

And no one said Jones is a bum… just that the Bama game plan and there after was O meddling. He also could have been meddling earlier in the season, but we don’t know that as definitively as we know about the game plan v Bama.

right - so thank God for O's expert level defensive mind which we have seen proof of so often throughout his career.

You have no information that this is what happened. In fact, the only information I've seen on this is that Orgeron was "tipped off" by Kiffin that his defenses were the same every play. Then things changed.

Regardless, I don't want to have anything to do with a DC who allows himself to get run over by his head coach to the point that he allows his defense to be so basic every single play.

Tactically, this was dumb. From a leadership standpoint, it showed none. It was so bad, it looked intentional.

We just have such short memories here, at one point he was the worst DC ever and now suddenly he’s a guy we have to keep after he pieced together a few decent games. The truth between those two things is probably somewhere in the middle. If Kelly was empowered to make Freeman the highest paid DC in CFB then he’s probably working with a nice budget to go after someone with more skins on the wall then Daronte and he absolutely should. He didn’t hire Daronte and doesn’t owe him a shot at anything.

Why the frick would you take what O says at face value?

Idk 80% of the time O is full fo shite

But it blows my mind that we’ll just turn to a 65 year old career position coach analyst for a game plan and hire a guy with no idea what’s he’s doing and O thinks that’s something to brag about.

Could it be true? Sure absolutely. Is it just fricking insane? Also sure.

I like Daronte, but Jimmy Lake is just sitting out there and is more proven at the same age.

Jimmy Lake Defenses
2016: 8th
2017: 12th
2018: 8th
2019: 16th

He made Buddah Baker, Byron Murphy and Marcus Peters into great players at both levels.

Can they hire Lake or does his contract say otherwise? He may have to sit out awhile to collect his money. Lake would be a good hire though.
