doing this to a coach that is an alum, was OC, then HC and was HC for 19 years.

Yep most forget this and likely why they met with him to negotiate. If I was Grundy I’d say pound sand and give me my buyout over taking a renegotiation

They have discussed firing him for cause if he doesn’t agree to the new contract.

What did he do to warrant being fired for cause?

This has to be a bluff unless they have some dirt on him. I bet they are banking the fact that once it is all said and done he would eventually take a reduced deal to just end the bullshite.

They're making that job a stepping stone job. You take that until you can get a big 10 or SEC job and run like your life depends on it

Well, it's Oklahoma State. It pretty much was a stepping stone job before Gundy decided he wanted to stay there for life.

Without looking at the current TV contracts, I'd have to guess that most Big XII schools are going to be dropping in revenue relative to the SEC & B1G, so without some crazy SMU-type boosters (T. Boone Pickens is dead), I don't know how the Big XII schools compete on coaching salaries & facilities while trying to adjust to the world of NIL and NCAA settlements.

How can they say that they would fire him for cause, but offer him another deal at the same time?

I feel like things are being left out of this story.

Gundy is "telling people they have to come to him". Who has to come to him if he's already been asked to accept a new deal?

And if it's true Oklahoma State didn't give him any details on said deal, how is he supposed to accept it, even if he was okay with a pay cut?

Thamel's tweet is clear as mud.

The dollars saved on his contract would be put towards NIL/revenue sharing.

The only way that is feasible under the current rules would be for donor pledges currently earmarked for Gundy's salary would be freed up to donate to NIL.

Take a pay cut or we will fire you.

That’ll have great prospective coaches lining up to take the job!

Looks like OK state bent the knee. That’s good, Gundy had them in the B12 championship last year.

As of 10 p.m. Friday, Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy has not been fired.

After rumors of his firing surfaced earlier Friday evening, multiple outlets reported that Gundy and members of Oklahoma State's administration were working on getting the details in a new contract "ironed out."

At 9:45 p.m., Scott Wright of The Oklahoman reported that discussions are headed in a positive direction towards a resolution to keep Gundy coaching Oklahoma State.

Gundy is the one taking a pay cut though. Sounds like they got what they wanted.

Not a bad thing honestly. Coaching congrats have been getting more and more outrageous since Saban became the first million dollar coach at LSU.
