You can drive 420 miles in 3 hours if you're Ricky Williams on I-10 high on weed.

Yeah, I didn't look it up or anything. Was told that at some point and never worried about it after.

But did I just hear Houston news say that tubberville is getting 2 mil a year? That can't be right. But it is only about an hour by plane.

And yeah, I was way off about how far away Dallas is.

I think we can agree that Lubbock is a shithole and Tampa is 10x better no matter how close Lubbock is to Dallas or any other decent Texas town.

And this might sound silly, but I don't love USF's mascot or colors, and their tradition is non-existent.
Neither was FSU's before Bowden.

People throw around shithole too much. I have only been to Lubbock once but I thought it was ok. The campus is nice. I have never been to Tampa.

I still don't believe what I heard but if they are paying him that much then I can understand his decision.

USF has a better immediate area to recruit.

...to supplement what I wrote earlier...

Someone just posted a tidbit from this SI article on the recruiting board.

The State of Recruiting

The article provides data showing programs that got recruits from within 200 miles surrounding campus from 2004-2008 were much more likely to be successful. The disparity of the amount of players that USF got from its surrounding area versus the amount that Tech got from its surrounding area was huge:

- 73.9 percent of USF's players came from within 200 miles of campus. That was the highest percentage of all BCS schools. 91.6 percent of its players came from instate. That's second to Texas.
- The average distance of each recruit's hometown from USF was 160.1718487 miles. The smallest by far of all BCS schools.

- 10.2 percent of Tech's players came from within 200 miles of campus. That was the third least of all BCS schools. 72.9 percent of its players came from instate, which is among the highest. However those players came from far away...
- The average distance of each recruit's hometown from Tech was 449.5238136 miles, which is close to what Wisconsin averaged, for example.

TT is 100 times a better job than UCF. They are competitive in the Big 12 - a lot of athletes in TX to recruit, and if Tubby keeps the offense and builds a stout defense (which he will do), they can compete. With FL, FSU, the U in Florida, anything else is minor league.

How much would USF be willing to pay? I am still shocked that tubbs is getting around 2 mil a year. That might be all the reason to pick tech over usf.

WHat about admission standards. Just having the Tech behind Texas leads me to believe it will be much harder to get into then USF. Personally I think USF is a better job now that they are in the Big East and have had some success.

Ok, I think leach was making 1.85 mil a year. Leavitt had recently signed a contract extension paying him 1.5 mil a year. So I guess 2 mil is not that unlikely there either.

I agree there are a lot of great recruits in TX, but why would you want to play Texas and OU every year? Sure at USF you're going against UF, FSU, and Miami for recruits, but you never have to play them in conference.

I have lived in Florida for about 14 years and I now live in Lubbock.
If you enjoy ANY type of fishing forget it.
If you enjoy the Cold/Snow/Wind/Dust Lubbock is a plus.
I know that there is a threat of Hurricanes in FL but after being here I would take one anyday of the week.
And TT is not close to anything.
Lubbock to Dallas - 350 miles
Lubbock to Austin - 382 miles
Lubbock to San Antonio - 407 miles
Lubbock to El Paso - 350 miles
Lubbock to Houston - 575 miles

Lubbock to Amarillo - 120 miles which is about the same size as Lubbock.

Every other little town in between feels like you went back in time about 150-200 years. There is nothing in them.

Tampa all day long without a question. There is no night life in respect to Dallas or anywhere in FL. Unless you farm cotton or corn forget it.

I can tell you that I will be doing a hell of alot of traveling A.K.A. (Leaving) Lubbock as much as possible.

may have already been mentioned but I think someone did a bit of research about where the most D1 recruits live and Southern Florida was the densest population of talent of anyone

Over half of the Florida talent was supposedly within 200 miles of the USF campus... that is a huge potential advantage

With Miami being down (esp by their standards) and TT having to compete more directly with Texas and OU I would definitely see more potential at USF

The traffic in and around Tampa drives me frigg'n crazy. Don't have that prob in Lubbock.

The Adm at both USF and TT believes the University runs the Athletics and not vice-versa. That sucks.

FL's Highway Patrol makes it a bonifide military state with all their speed traps. You can speed in TX.

The weather? Might be deciding factor.
