My thoughts on the Tennessee debacle..

1. I actually agree with the fans on this one and its actually refreshing to see the power of protest work in college sports.
2. No matter what is reported, this had absolutely nothing to do with the Penn State/Jerry Sandusky situation.
3. Schiano would have been a disastrous hire and the fans knew it. He is basically Butch Jones 2.0 and it is well documented everywhere he has been.(former players hate him, His way or the hwy type.) He is not a successful coach. Avg record at Rutgers.. not exactly a powerhouse... and then abysmal at Tampa Bay.. How he got that job I have no idea.. He was cussed out on the field by your (Tennessee) greatest treasure.. (Peyton Manning)
4. He has in no way earned the Tennessee job, (which I think is a really good job still) This years defense is one of Ohio States worst Defenses in years..
And lastly, Why are theses incompetent idiot AD's not hiring searching firms?. (Looking at you Alleva) These football hires are basically responsible for 95% of Athletic Dept Revenue.. This is the biggest hire you will make.. why not ask for a little help from people who are skilled at this... Its just mind boggling to me that you are looking for a coach to take over a program that needs to pull in about 85 million $ a year and Greg Schiano pops in your mind... If I'm the president of the University of Tennessee, I am seriously questioning the decision making capabilities of my Athletic Director..

bullshite.

Fans would have been a little pissed, but this rose to the level of the governor, mayor and 70 legislators. They would not have rallied just because they thought it was a sub-par hire.

Without the Sandusky angle, he would be the coach right now.

they used it as an excuse to justify the protest.. If Gruden was on staff with Paterno, you would hear crickets..

Completely wrong. Sure, there would have been disgruntled fans.

But this rally was all about the pedo angle.

There is no way the politicians get involved without that aspect. The politicians are what killed this.

He would not be hired.

This isn't the first coach from the Paterno/Sandusky area to get blackballed.

I'm honestly kind of shocked Urban Meyer was able to hire this dude as DC and not have any backlash.

His record at Rutgers is pretty impressive when considered it is Rutgers

Those idiots have poisoned the program. How can any sane person think what happened yesterday was good for Tennessee? A tough job became even tougher thanks to the mob.

They are gonna have to make a Cutcliffe/Martin type hire.

The AD and people who tried to hire him are the ones that poisoned the program. The fans merely reacted to it.

There are worse things that could happen than Brady Hoke staying as interim another season.

Even though he didn’t sustain success at Michigan he was able to win there, Ball State, and San Diego State.

Hoke had an almost identical record to what Harbough has now.

I could name 5 coaches right now that are a better fit and would take the job than Brady Hoke or Greg Schiano..

Better fit, yes.

Take the job? May be a tall order at the moment.

My point is that an emergency fallback of Hoke isn’t as bad as some of the coaches they could hire.

Maybe because a massive investigation that led to multiple high ranking Penn State officials going to jail never found any inkling of evidence that Schiano did anything wrong.

Maybe because the NFL vetted Schiano for the Tampa Bay job and found he did nothing wrong. Same for Ohio State.

Maybe he really is innocent and Tennessee just ruined him becuase he’s not Jon Gruden.

McQuery is the only one who's blackballed. Tom Bradley, Larry Johnson, and Schiano have all worked uninterrupted.

If true, then why not just come out and say this instead of potentially ruining someones reputation on hearsay. If it ever does come out to be true, then he can rot in hell, but until then I won't pass judgement.

There are apparently a lot of things going on.

The Penn State stuff is what caught fire with the fans and politicians.

What Reddit claims is that the boosters lined up against Schiano because they were promised to be kept in the loop on a search in exchange for ponying up Butch’s buyout. The AD told them he was looking at possibilities then turned around and signed Schiano without even telling them there was a deal about to be struck. They were so pissed they threatened to withhold the buyout money for Butch if Schiano was kept.

There are also claims the AD floated Schiano as a possibility to the rest of his office and the response was overwhelmingly negative, yet he proceeded anyway.

TLDR - The AD caused a category 5 shitstorm by lying to boosters and proceeding with an unpopular hire despite warnings it was a bad idea.

It was just a scapegoat.

They didn't want him as their football coach, because they think they can do better.

Yes. It would have been way more badass of a protest to just come out and say that.

I'd say that's exactly what happened.

Schiano coached at Penn State from 1990 - 1995. It's been 22 years since he left, and nobody accused him of anything, other than a second hand report of a second hand report all parties have since denied.

Y’all do know the Sandusky angle was something that even courts looked at like was nothing basically was a person said somebody said something that that person said he never heard Schiano say. And then Schiano said he didn’t say it. Schiano would of been a very solid hire. He made Rutgers program and it hasn’t been the same since he left and no way Rutgers is in the Big10 without the Schiano years
