Schiano said he never said it, and the person Schiano supposedly told it to also said Schiano never said it.

He made Rutgers program and it hasn’t been the same since he left and no way Rutgers is in the Big10 without the Schiano years

A guy who took a dead program and made it into a B10 program? A guy who recruited players from Ohio and Florida and got them to come to New Brunswick back in the early 00's, when it was a dump?

Schiano will go to a major program in the next year or two and get them turned around quickly, while Tennessee is looking at being in the wilderness for the next 3-5 years.

Good job, Vols fans!

I actually agree with the fans on this one and its actually refreshing to see the power of protest work in college sports.

I agree that Schiano shouldn't be the guy. But now you have validated the whims of crazy fans/legislators. What "established" coach wants to come to a school where the fans clearly get a voice in the personnel decisions? This is the SEC where fans want coaches fired after EVERY two game losing streak. This whole debacle makes this a very undesirable environment for an established coach or even just a coach who is comfortable in his current job.

2. No matter what is reported, this had absolutely nothing to do with the Penn State/Jerry Sandusky situation.

Agreed 100% It is just the cover used for the real reason for outrage...Tenn. fans don't think Schiano is worthy of the job.

Why are theses incompetent idiot AD's not hiring searching firms?. (Looking at you Alleva)

In large part because Tenn. is a public university subject to FOIA disclosures. The AD's use third party search firms as intermediaries in an effort to keep the media and crazies from obtaining info about the ongoing search. Do you see what just happened due to social media leaks? Now imagine if the local paper or Jim Bob from east Tenn. could get his hands on verifiable information?

UT will end up with Tee Martin and wish they'd hired Schiano.

I think he is in no way "worthy of that job" he had a connection to the Currie family. It was just reported.. Schiano is not on anyone elses radar for a reason.. kinda like Miles..

His record at Rutgers is pretty impressive when considered it is Rutgers

He was .504 at Rutgers. Rutgers overall record is .507.

He was a super weak hire plus we don’t want to defend his time while he was at Peddo St

They hadn't been to a bowl game since '78. Hadn't finished in the top 15 since '61.

My point is that an emergency fallback of Hoke isn’t as bad as some of the coaches they could hire.

Man Tennessee fans would flip if they hired the interim coach.. I wonder what kinda dirt they would find on Hoke to protest him out of the job?

If they cant find anything whats next? plant drugs in his car?

Pictures of him screwing a shark?

I believe that fans being able to reverse a decision off of basically bad information like this sets a dangerous precedent.

You hire an AD to make the decision on the HC. He made the decision and that should be the end of it. I say that as an LSU fan that watched Alleva hire Orgeron. I do believe Alleva should be fired but he was within his rights to make the hire by himself.

This wasn’t reversed due to “fans” per se.

This was reversed due to all boosters not named Haslem asking if he lost his goddamn mind.

They were 11-44 the 5 years before he took over. So once he got it rolling it was the greatest sustained success the program had since the 70's when they were a D-1 independent but basically played an Ivy League schedule.

But after a little cajoling, DeFilippo relented and agreed to join the team as a managing director. With DeFilippo on board, Turnkey Search has quickly become a player in the competitive college search market, particularly in the Southeastern Conference. Since November, the New Jersey-based company placed football coach Ed Orgeron at LSU, athletic director Greg Byrne at Alabama and athletic director John Currie at Tennessee.

"They were fantastic - a huge help," LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said. "They have years of football experience and know all the coaches and their agents. They were invaluable."

Turnkey has been in the executive search industry for more than two decades, working with numerous professional organizations, but entered the college market only a little more than two years ago. It joined a crowded field dominated by firms such as Parker Executive Search, DHR International, Korn/Ferry International and Collegiate Sports Associates, all competing for the same lucrative searches.
