Lukabu was the DC but Hafley had his hands all over the Boston College defense this past season. The BC defense was up near the top of FBS defenses in takeaways too

it feels like with O already going young with the OC hire he might want a more experienced guy to lean on for DC

Wondering what the logic is here. If one is young the other can’t be?

Odd thing to say.

He would feel like he is at home in BR.

He’s been a DC for one year, and that defense ranked 73rd in the country. What am I missing here? Why is the coaching board obsessed with this guy?

If 73rd is good enough, just promote Coach Raymond.

It’s looking at his pedigree and trajectory. It’s their first year at at Boston College.

2019: 31.7 ppg, 480 ypg

2020: 28.4 ppg, 416 ypg

That’s a nice improvement in 1, covid impacted, season.

BC was 14th(last) in the ACC in recruiting ranking in 2018 and 13th in 2019.

They’re likely the least talented team in the ACC

I'd like to see the whole DBackfield in CRay's room for continuity. 3 new safeties will see the field---let em' learn as a unit with the CB's from day one.

quote:

Based on what?

Let's see... maybe the continuity of learning how to blend individual skills into a unit with the advantage of experienced---and a couple elite---players to work off? And maybe the fact that he already coached the whole secondary for what, 5 seasons? See my prior response. Coaching individual talent (see NFL players) to blend into a unit is no mean feat.
quote:

None of that has a thing to do with coaching assignments.
What? Of Course it does! He was assigned to coach the DBs as DB Coach. He way assigned to coach the CBs as CB Coach.

quote:

DBs account for nearly half the players on defense on many plays.

Yeah, so? Wait, do you mean because of the sheer number of players he would have to coach? He's teaching scheme/responsibilities. It could be Ryan, Davis, Hampton, and any combo of the slots/CB's. The assignments and learning reps don't change just because the player does.

quote:

Corey also has Recruiting Coordinator duties that take up a lot of time.

Point taken. That could be a factor against. Hard to say.

quote:

Safeties Coach is a thing most top programs have now, including every team in the playoffs.

Again: Yeah, so? I'm not for or against it. Whether he were to get/have the job or not, I believe there are many factors pointing to CRay having the chops to Coach up the entire Secondary.

quote:

Don’t get sucked into Rant talking points that have no basis in real life

That tidbit of advice sounds like condescension. I give less than one rat fooke about anyone's "talking points" and while I've found your posts succinct and relevant, if you feel the need to lay out for the rest of us what "real life" is or is not, then don't be surprised when you are directed to go fornicate yourself.

Man, they still gave up a lot of points. I just find it hard to blame Leach's boys for all of that.

Safeties coach was a new thing at LSU but not a new thing in college football.

LSU fans seem to think it’s some new-fangled nonsense.

It’s not. Safeties coach is here to stay. Now obviously it depends on the new DC and his strategy.
