There are also unpredictable, unseen costs hovering on the horizon that could transform that steady creep into a terrifying leap. Take, for example, the new tax bill passed by Congress that could be potentially disastrous for major collegiate athletic departments. As of press time and before the bill’s reconciliation in the House, the overhaul of the tax code passed by both the House and Senate included the removal of the 80 percent deduction for purchase of tickets to college athletic events. About 45,000 tickets for LSU football games require a donation (plus more for some seats in the club and suite sections), ranging from $200 to $3,000 per year, according to a story in The Advocate, to LSU’s Tradition Fund. In the past, that donation has been tax deductible, but under the passed, pre-reconciliation tax bill, it no longer would be.

According to The Advocate, Munson estimated the removal of that deduction could cost the department as much as $50 million annually; Alleva said “it could be disastrous.” Without the tax deduction, they fear, the Tradition Fund could shrink drastically.

you think my family is contemplating not getting tickets every year because of some tax break not available?

season ticket holders arent worried about that crap. they want to win. you might hear the tax break shite as an excuse when we suck but i promise no one is complaining about not being exempt when we are 12-1 and in the playoffs.

the acceptance of what is currently happening is sickening. im just glad it isnt costing me money anymore. yall flush your money down the drain.

From my understanding, LSU didn’t have to pay taxes on the “TAF donations” (revenue) built into the cost of tickets ... which as of now is no longer the case because of the new bill. It has nothing to do with individual season ticket holders.

Maybe it is me who’s wrong?

Right

Alleva is a vice chancellor, he is probably too high up to just get fired. But if TAF can’t pay their debt load because their revenue is down then shite will happen with the quickness and that begins with Alleva.

There is a much bigger financial picture here than just football wins and losses and sellouts. People have to WANT to give discretionary money, not just renew season ticket packages. If they don’t believe their money is being used wisely and they also lost the deductions then it justifies reducing their giving or outright declining to donate and renew.

Losing the deductions is an excuse, mismanagement is a reason

I am not just talking about season ticket renewals, but the donations TAF gets too.

when the football team is winning and Alleva is doing what is best for the program, taxes and anything short of kicking puppies doesnt even matter.

if we were in Bama's position right now, would this convo be even in the stratosphere of a possibility? No. We are pretty much the only state and team in the sec that has the talent and resources to deal with them and we are so far behind it is criminal. And our fans are ok with it.

But the other donations aren’t affected by the tax bill, are they? My understanding was that it’s just the ticket purchases.

Amazing that Canada and Aranda were fine. But the leadership around them was disastrous.

We fire a guy that draws up a gameplay and we have the most yards against bama in like 3 years, but we fire him and replace a guy that couldn't even get enough points or yards to beat just about all of Florida's 2nd and 3rd string.

People make donations outside of buying tickets. The people that truly matter anyway. The Jim Bernhardts, the cooks, the Pennington, lawtons, Morans, won't be making those big time private donations. People don't just donate money because of tickets.

As for joe public the best they can do is not renew the tickets. Attendance was already dwindling, gonna get worse now.

If thats the case, they let the O hire happen so their money doesnt mean shite except that it hurts the program. All the oil money in the world doesnt mean shite when there are no butts in the seats.

sorry to put a damper on the mega rich, but an empty stadium far outweighs your huge checkbooks.

I have never given much to TAF since I get my season tickets through the school and thus pay the Tradition Fund directly to the school.

What % of the seats are given to TAF to distribute?

They will blame the non-payment on the new tax law.
Headlines: New Trump tax law cuts TAF donations in half.
They will blame Trump for it, not Allevia or O.

This guy gets it. Spot on.

They expect donations to take a hit because of the new tax code, Alleva said as much a few weeks ago

I think he saw the coming shitstorm brewing. The tax cuts were a convenient way of covering his arse. It's also what he knew F(uc)King would want to hear out of his AD.

How is it even possible to get seats this way?
