Spurrier wastes no time

Hires DC from the Atlanta Falcons.Notice what this same article has to say about Nix (mentioned as an LSU possible on this board)...
quote:
South Carolina's defense was a big reason the Gamecocks reached No. 6 in the nation. Things fell apart down the stretch, with the ugliest moments at the end. The Gamecocks, who finished last in Southeastern Conference in rushing defense, gave up 541 yards on the ground - including 321 to Razorbacks star Darren McFadden - in a 48-36 defeat. Spurrier didn't want Nix to leave. But "he knew it wasn't working all that well," Spurrier said.

Not to mention that Ellis Johnson is the USC DC and didn't go anywhere.

My thoughts is your little "lining up" joke is worn out. Nobody says that people are just lining up for the job. As I said in the other thread, there's some very qualified candidates that have expressed interest though. The longer the wait, the less candidates there will be in my opinion.

1) VanGorder had 4 jobs in four years
2) VanGorder was out on his arse with the rest of Petrino's staff
3) VanGorder accepted the USCar DC job then backed out 3 weeks later and is now the Falcons DC
but other than that, great thread

So now that it is established that this was a 2007 article, and that VanG quit in record time, and all that, what's the overall take on what the article and Spurrier had to say about Nix. Since this name has been popping up along here, I thought that could be relevant to the overall DC speculation-derby.

And maybe he would have had some NFL names available.

As you can see, the spot didn't actually get filled until late January. How much would people freak out if Miles hired a DC who left and had to hire another one. Think of the melt down.
