Easily the worst head coach in college football but they just can’t afford the buyout. (1.5 Million)

Louisiana Tech is simply trying to hang on for dear life at the FBS level at this point. The sooner the big boys break off, the better it will be.

To be fair, they did show marked improvement this year.

No they didn’t. Conference USA is just atrocious.

The defense, which he has no part in, was improved but we won’t retain the DC. The offense, which he controls, was arguably the worst offense in the history of the program.

They had 5 one-score losses, including 3 in OT.

I'm not defending Cumbie, but if Tech doesn't want to pony up the buyout money, they can certainly justify giving him another year by arguing they're "close".

If they had defended the Hail Mary 3 weekends ago he would be bowl eligible. They did what the did this season with a 3rd string QB so probably deserved.

We are tarded. Apparently we are so broke we can’t afford the buy out… Well, that short sightedness all but assures the loss of any fan support. By firing his arse you at least are attempting CPR, by keeping him you basically just pulled the plug. Almost any other program in the country would find a way to can this guy. We just bend over and bite the pillow.

RIP Louisiana tech football

Yeah about the third string QB thing, that was all Cumbie’s choosing. The second string did get hurt but he was also a freshman alongside Bullock. Even towards the end of the season, Cumbie stuck with Bullock over Baker. The idea Cumbie pulled this thing to five wins due to QB injuries is a fallacy.

So I’m not giving Cumbie credit for grossly mismanaging the QB staff for the third consecutive season

How one school can make some many poor decisions with an athletic program is simply mind blowing.

Louisiana Tech Football was a good thing the last 7-8 years before Covid, then the wheels came off the wagon.

Conference USA is a death trap and it needs to be exited as promptly as possible - heck, go independent for football. The midweek games killed what little bit of support and enthusiasm was left.

He didn't exactly get the vote of confidence to stay on as coach. I am hearing we couldn't get the money from boosters to completely buy out his contract, so he gets another year. The downfall of my universities athletic program is going to make one hell of a book one day.

Holtz himself admitted he was burnt out and had lost his motivation.

Doesn't Tech has some boosters with pretty deep pockets?

Davison could pay the buyout with spare change he found in his sofa cushions. But he's already given Tech a lot of money. Maybe he's decided to close the checkbook for a while.

There's also the Wyly brothers but one of them s dead and the other lost most of his fortune to the IRS.

The End Zone project of a Decade ago. The new Press Box & Suites. The new OTHER End Zone project. Campus projects. There is only so much money to go around among even the deepest pockets at Tech & I guess the new AD couldn't get all the money to buy out his contract for next year. I heard he had one booster offer $750K alone to assist in the buyout but they couldn't get the rest of it. And here we are..............

Cumbie showed he was willing to make changes this year. He fired the DC and the defense improved. The gave up play calling and the offense KINDA improved. They're going to give him a few games into next year to see if he's really improving. I'm ok with it, but there needs to be a short leash if things go south next year.

How is La Tech going to afford a player payroll after the House settlement if they can't afford a $1.5 million buyout?

Its La Tech dude. They dont have the athletic budget to hire and fire coaches at will. Neither do they have a huge NIL collective. You are not a top tier program in a money making conference. You're no different than ULM down the road.
