I assume this is the old jimmies and joes vs X’s and O’s argument. The problem I have with that take is good coaches seem to be consistently good regardless of players and regardless of school. But if it’s really just the players to blame then it’s recruiting (also a coach’s responsibility) and we don’t seem to be doing great there either.
You send Saban to Oregon State right now, he aint beating Oregon next year. No matter what.

It might be player responsibility, but whose responsibility is it to teach the players? This ain’t backyard football

Sloan hankton will be your co coord next year
Hankton could still be in play for other jobs as well
The co coord is to keep him to stay

I’m fine with Sloan promoted. We should bring in an old OC or HC as our tight end coach though that can help guide Sloan and give an elevated title if that’s the case.

The longer this drags on, the more it leads me to believe it’ll be either Rees or Sloan. Rees is tied up with the Michigan prep and should they win that game, the NC. If Kelly strikes out on that, Sloan is the lazy fall-back hire.

Jortez Sloankton will put fear into all opposing defenses next year

There is a relatively local guy who fits that description: Slade Nagle.

I think it’s Sloan as OC and a TE coach is hired who also runs the special teams and can recruit.

The guy who was a GA just 10 years ago?

Terry Malone as TE coach and maybe co-OC.

jelly has hired a lot of. young guys that he can work his offense with.
Mike Sanford (33 when Kelly hired)
Chip Long (34 when Kelly Hired)
Tommy Rees (28 When Kelly Hired Him)
He has also hired from within a lot.
Chuck Martin, Denbrock (at ND) and Rees were all internal hires at ND
