Until someone produces proof of a signed extension with a buyout, Saban remains in play for the Texas job.

This is what I'm waiting to hear. I keep reading articles that say "Saban agreed" to stay at Bama. What is that a verbal agreement? Who knows. I'm waiting to read that he has SIGNED a contract. Until then, yes, anything is possible.

Some unknown hatred here or something.
Maybe just a fear of him showing his sorry incompetent arse up by winning a Natty in less than three years or does he want to hand pick his successor, or did he just think he could ride this shite storm out and keep his job?
Hard to torpedo what isn't real.

saban recommended nutt because they share the same agent.

Saban would turn the same failing Texas players and turn them into winners by year 1 or 2. Saban took a Bama program that hadn't had a 4th quarter comeback in a long long time, but Saban had a 4th quarter win after his 3rd game at Bama. Then Bama in Saban's 2nd year took off with a 8-0 SEC regular season, and then History was made between 2009-2013.

who said brown torpedoed saban? do you believe everything you read or just what you want to believe? the moves by tejas have a lot of twists and turns and brown does not control them. w/o the leaks, what came down would be as logical as can be. brown wanted to tell his players himself and he wanted to do it after the banquet celebrating the players. he deserved that. the leaks and the rumors were not perpetuated by him.
people sure like to make shite up and present them as fact. like a bunch of gossipy old women.

Saban would make Texas players quit

There is a bit of a hole in the decision-making flow chart here. I don't believe any coach, AD or even agent was responsible for what has happened this weekend at UT. Stay with me here...Who makes the decisions at Texas? The big donors. The big swinging dicks with billions in the bank. What does a BSD hate the most? Right, another BSD. They're the only ones that can threaten each other's control and reputations. So I'm thinking this whole weekend was a sideline to a pissing contest between two or more of these characters.
In one camp we've got Joe Jamail who is backing Mack Brown. Is even Brown's personal attorney. This is why neither the UT AD nor the President could just fire Brown. That was out of the question. They had to talk him into resigning, but couldn't. Neither Jamail nor Brown wants anyone else as UT's coach as this would change their precious status quo. But even more importantly and to the point, Jamail doesn't want Saban because Jamail doesn't want any other BSD to make or be seen to make the decision on who the UT coach will be. It wasn't that Saban was the choice of the other camp, it was that Saban was not Jamail's choice. And everyone knew that. If Saban becomes UT's coach, Jamail's control and reputation take a huge hit.
So instead of doing what is obviously best for the UT football program by acquiescing in the hiring of Saban, Jamail poisons the well to protect his reputation as the top BSD. Once that is done, Jamail is shown to be in control with reputation as king-maker intact. Now Brown can resign with the golden parachute and take up his new role as the next Pat Dye / Lloyd Carr political cancer in the Athletic Department.
Saban probably kissed the ground when he got back to Tuscaloosa.

You know, after all the clown business that went on last and everything I read about Jamail - your theory is the only one that makes perfect sense to me.

The AD isn't making the hire - Jamail and company are doing that. Patterson is being told to shut up and nod... The same culture exists at A&M to a lesser extent

Some of you guys are pretty close. The Prez & Brown really didn't want Saban. Supposedly Powers couldn't pull the trigger on Brown like he had agreed to do if Mack wouldn't resign during their meeting Friday before the banquet. The BMD's plan was going according to plan - they got rid of Dodds, hired a good AD, Patterson, negotiated a settlement with Brown, but Brown still wouldn't commit to quitting and Powers over-ruled Patterson who was ready to fire Brown on the spot Friday. Consequently, Patterson, as agreed before the meeting, calls Sexton and Saban declares that he's sticking with Bama. Both Powers & Brown mucked it up. Powers is going to catch hell & most likely will be out of office in 6 months or so.
Getting rid of Mack Brown was like shitting a cancerous tumor. It just didn't come out in time. Essentially, Bama was Saban's fall back plan and he got a two million $ raise, which is below what Texas was ready to give him.

You're probably a popular poster around here.

Seems like you do too.
All you have posted for months is that Saban was a 100% done deal to Texas.
I don't buy for one second that if Saban had already agreed to come to Texas that the AD and president would let Mack Brown fiddlefart around and screw it up by waiting 24 more hours.
If your AD and president are that weak, y'all are fricked.
And if 24 more hours of hesitation on Mack's part is all it took to get Saban to back out on a deal that been locked down for months, then it doesn't sound like it was all that much of a done deal to begin with.

I don't know that they aren't. Some are saying he's still in play, but I think even Saban has a limit on making false statements and wanted to stop the speculation after Texas couldn't get rid of Mack as planned.
