How is it bullshite? Saban clearly made LSU a viable place for Louisiana athletes to stay home and play football. Before that, we were losing all those guys to the UFs adn FSUs of the CFB world.

in the 90s we had mediocre success under dinardo, then turned terrible again. The 80s we had a champinship under archer and one under Arnsparger, but we were still not nationally relevant. The 70s was the last time we were relevant on a national picture, but we still didn't sniff an NC.

Saban changed that and made LSU the athletic department it is today. That is undeniable and just plain butthurtness to deny it.

James Franklin & David Shaw would unquestionably. I've got little doubt about The Coaching Scientologist up at BSU, as well.

LSU has not been relevant in the national scene since the 70s before Saban's arrival. That's what I meant.

Obviously, i know about the conference titles in 86 and 88, which still had about 7 losses between them two teams if i recall correctly.

You mean the 70's when Bama owned us and we won exactly ONE Sec Title (1970) and lost both "big bowl games" (2 Orange Bowl losses). So what is your definition of National relevance again? Sounds like worse then the 80's as for as SEC success if you ask me.

It's funny how everytime Bama and LSU meet, it's a referendum on Miles. It's never a referendum on Saban.

That says more about LSU fans than it does about Saban or Miles. Neither of those guys should have to prove anything to the fans. They are both driven coaches who work hard and have proven their respective worth to their schools over and over and over. Nearly all Bama fans accept that. Many LSU fans don't.

Lol. If Mark Richt were at LSU with the kind of talent he gets with very, very little to show for it, you'd be the first tuba player on here talking shite about him.

assuming your list is accurate there is an extremely slim chance that any of the other coaches in that list would come to LSU that's the point.

we already have a top 5 coach (who you called a buffoon in another thread BUT YOUR REALLY LIKE HIM!) .

so would LSU football continue if he were to leave? Obviously it would.

Is there a pretty good chance that we wouldn't be able to hire a top coach from you list and then have to recruit against Saban, Miles and a surging TAMU? Yes.

This is why your 'meh...Miles isn't the best coach in the world so he doesn't deserve a raise and wouldn't be a big deal if he left.' is short sighted. Nebraska, Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, USC and other historical powerhouses have fallen off for considerable periods of time over the past 15 years and I don't want that to happen here. We have by your own words a top coach but you don't care if he leaves. That makes zero sense.

That's not true. I want him to stay because of the risk taken. But, I don't want to pay him undeserved raises either. Call his bluff. I guarantee you a 60+ year old Miles ain't going to fricking arkansas to start over.

Go back and look at the Recruting classes Dinardo had from 96-99. Another huge FACT that people miss is he paved the way for SABAN when he got here (as for as recruiting). Also go look at how many of those players on the 2001 SEC Champ team were Dinardos. If anything Dinardo started the building blocks to what SABAN brought to fruition in 2003 back in 1996.

Not sure if this has been brought up, since I'm not gonna read every single page here;

2 coaches to mention. Some people keep saying the name "Saban", like it has any relevance. Miles is not Saban, Saban is not leaving Alabama, Saban is not coming to LSU. So invoking Saban's name is pointless, stupid, and backwards. And it seems like lots of people's only complaint about Miles, is that he isn't Saban.

Second coach to mention- I forget his name, and that's pretty significant, to be honest. But the guy I'm thinking of, used to coach at Boise, then went to Colorado. Then, crashed and burned, and is nobody now. People with any memory will recall who I'm talking about. The point of mentioning him- all this talk of Patterson, Peterson, etc... you don't have a fricking clue if they can come in and do half the job Miles is doing. You just don't; I think TCU is now 7-4 in the Big 12. Can't say Patterson looks brilliant now.

Really? Why? It is based off the triple option, originated out of Houston (allegedly), it introduced the triple option to football (allegedly), and is usually run with two TEs. Sometimes, can be deployed with Receivers. However, variations of it are run out of the gun and Meyer's offense with Harvin basically was the veer out of the shotgun. Oregon also runs some variations of it, but they do a lot of "wishbone" type plays out of the shotgun. What specifically do you want to know about it? David Shaw: offense is ranked only about 84 this year, but that was due to QB trouble. He actually had the balls to swtich QBs instead of being stubborn and staying with a garbage QB for 4 years and improved his offense to average 411 yards per game after the switch. Led his team to a BCS bowl last year all with Stanfords lack of facilities and $ spent on football.

Flute Player,Miles had a first yr QB and had Lee and Jeffersn at QB.You have yet to explain the veer to me. Bill Yomen was the coach at UH who gets credit for it.I know the history,Tell me how it works. It is not like the zone read.

You make excuses for Shaw yet crucify Miles. Please explain the veer to me coach. Bet Les can explain it.
You repeatedly show your ignorance. You know more about Les than Michigan or Arkansas.Call Jeff Long and enlighten him about Miles.

Post a pic of yourself in a football uniform. I bet if coach would've put you in in the 4th qtr, you guys would've won STATE!

Oh, well no shite.

It's essentially a 3 back offense with one guy taking the dive, one taking the pitch, and one being the lead blocker on most plays. You can obviously run all sorts of variations on it, but the QBs ability to read is what makes it work. THe dive is the bread and butter though of this offense. Usually the line leaves the DT unblocked at the HS level and the QB can read him. Sometimes I guess it could be a backer or another linemen.
Nebraska ran a pretty cool variation of it though. They would pound you in pound you in, then spread you out. As soon as they got you spread out, they hit you with zone inside. Pretty unstoppable if you have the athletes and you execute. Usually the line leaves the DT unblocked at the HS level and the QB can read him. Sometimes I guess it could be a backer or another linemen.
I don't know why I humored you with this, and I have no idea what you're tyring to accomplish. But please, continue to be the bench player backup OL who is 5'9 220 lbs who is all fat. Think you're a badass? I guaran-damtee I can outrun you. And I weigh 225 lbs.

I was just about to post this very statement. Dinardo started locking down Louisiana before Saban. Nick's greatest contribution was having someone like Emmert on board that understood what it took to rise to the top. The upgrading of facilities, Cox academic center and the TAF were all things needed to compete with the big boys. Saban had a big part in getting all of that but Mark Emmert is even more responsible for it.

I don't know if contribution is the right word but I know where you are coming from

But ever since Saban left, there are people who want to give all the credit to Emmert for our success since 2000. It was great to have him on board but he didn't know anything about running a major college football program.

To be fair, I think people give Saban too much credit or they don't give him enough if that makes sense.

There are those who think Saban is the only reason LSU is a major player today. (even I admit that is not entirely right, as Emmert was just as big a part of that)

However, there are those on the other side who think saban just rode Dinardo's talent and got lucky and LSU made him.

Give Jim Mora, Jr or Bill O'brien the talent Les has had in the past few years. Give that same talent to Chris Petersen or Gary Patterson.

Let's do that...then put em all in the same conference and throw in Saban and Bama for a five team division. One of em is last in the conference and is playing a bowl game in Shreveport.

"Why don't the coaches you named RECRUIT the talent LSU has? Give them the talent...ridiculous."

A very excellent point. Les Miles will not be recruiting players for these fabulous coaches. If they were such quality coaches, why haven't they already been recruiting such caliber players?

I know someone will argue that they may not have had the facilities to do so, but - why hasn't a school with comparable facilities already hired them?

Emmert was very instrumental in our success. NOt just that he was the chancellor when Saban was coach and who helped Saban get facilities, more academic support and more money and longer contracts for assistants, but he was the one who told Joe Dean to hire Saban(I'm sure after consulting Weems and the boys). So in a way, you could say that hiring Emmert was one of the best moves LSU ever made.
