That tends to happen when you have to build a program from a 3-8 team to a national champion. Les should thank Saban every day for his only NC.

Guess that means you could say the same thing for Bob Stoops at Oklahoma, Jim Tressell when he was at Ohio State, and Urban Myer when he was at Florida. I mean after all they all stepped in and won NC either 2 or 3 years after their predecessors built them football kingdoms. Why don't people constantly say this when talking about Bob Stoops lone NC? Most people have no idea who the coach before him even was.

What about Ron Zook building up Florida the way he did? Granted he was a pretty bad head coach but he is one of the best recruiters in the country and he gave Urband Myer the keys to a revved up machine at Florida. You never heard a peep from anybody about Urban Myer giving the great Ron Zook thanks for his NC but that's the case in point.

So I guess if Les stays here another 10 years and wins several more SEC champs and another NC or two, he still needs to give thanks at night to glorious Nick Saban for what he built 17 years ago?

At some point in time you have to also give credit to the main who sustains a program. I know the fact that Les followed one of the great College head football coaches of all time will make this impossible but it's a little bit rediculous given other coaches who did the exact same thing never get the same comparison at all.

That's definitely part of it, but I think Les' demeanor and quirkiness are the biggest part of it. He doesn't fit the mold of a big-time college coach. No matter how successful he is, the perception will be otherwise.

You're close

The problem Les Miles has with fans isn't results, although some try to pretend it is. It's that he doesn't command respect everywhere he goes like Saban did/does. LSU fans want someone who carries himself like Saban did. And the next coach at Bama will have a hard time winning over the fans regardless of results if he doesn't carry himself like Saban.

It's funny how everytime Bama and LSU meet, it's a referendum on Miles. It's never a referendum on Saban.

Because they don't care about those programs.

They're still mad at Les for not trying to be more like Saban.

Oh, you mean when Saban was rebuilding in 07 and Miles had a championship team and still needed 4th qtr heroics to win? Sure, let's count that one.

Why is it all or nothing with some of you people? I give Les lots of credit. I just don't think he is so infallible and great that he shouldn't be held accountable and that he should be given a blank check from LSU.

Miles only beat Saban one time? Was Saban rebuilding in 2010 & 2011?

That just shows how old you are and how recently you started following LSU football. You consider a SEC Champ just over 10 years prior to SABAN arrival not being relevant for decades? Maybe you should have picked up a media guide or 2 when you were in the band and actually learned about the team you claim to follow.

head to head is this:

07-Miles NC
08-Saban
09-saban NC
10-Miles
11-Miles
11-Saban NC
12-SAban NC(most likely)
4-3 H2H record. Saban has 3 NCs to Les' 1. You tell me who is winning that battle. Not to mention the embarrassment Bama gave LSU.

I bet if Miles carried around the same attitude that Saban has....you know...the "I'm the fricking man" attitude that would go along way with you

LSU has not been relevant in the national scene since the 70s before Saban's arrival. That's what I meant.

Obviously, i know about the conference titles in 86 and 88, which still had about 7 losses between them two teams if i recall correctly.

Ironic you should say this when you are acting like the biggest cheerleader for Saban. Maybe you can't see it but you got that going on for you. Like I said before who do you consider a great coach in College football today besides Saban? Whatever you do, don't be a hypocrite and say those coaches who won off other coaches programs.

I really do. Go look at my posts.

who says he's infallible?

Whenever someone questions a decision by him or says we should've done better (towson, auburn this year), you have people like bernie saying "band nerds!" "you don't know shite about football" "have you ever coached CFB before!"

That seems like many thinking he is above questioning.

apparently everyone who thinks he deserves a raise for finishing 4th or 5th in the SEC and going to the chicken sandwich bowl.

so saban has won one more game in the H2H battle. pure. dominance.

Miles does better against Saban than pretty much any other coach. Saban has more NC than any other coach too so by that all coaches are owned by Saban and none deserve a raise.

You're still so butthurt from 1/9 that you're using that one game to define his career.

Why do I have to choose between Les and Saban. Both are great coaches, but saban is almost indisputably better.

Les Miles
Chris Petersen
Gary Patterson
Urban Meyer
Jim Harbaugh (not in college anymore, I know)
David Shaw (needs a few more seasons for me to keep him here)
Mark Richt

No doubt Les is top 5, but you people act like LSU football is over if les goes.

That game was inexcusable.

Again, just because I question Les getting a raise and I dislike him doing this bullshite every year to try and get one, doesn't mean I don't think les is not a top 5 coach. He clearly is, but the program would move on and still be nationally relevant without him because of what Saban built here.
