Petersen did indeed approach Woodward for the Washington job. Woodward was shocked and immediately did what was necessary to close the deal.

Unfortunately things aren't appearing so fortunate this go around.

All about timing. Sometimes it’s on your side and sometimes it’s not.

sort of. his tenure at FL St was becoming pretty rocky and i don't think he felt like Fl St was giving him the football commitment needed. Jimbo hasn't won a championship at A&M yet anyways.

His first time out in December 2008, not many people wanted the job. The Huskies had gone 0–11 in Tyrone Willingham’s final season, and Woodward considered it a victory to get USC offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian. When USC poached Sarkisian following the firing of Lane Kiffin in 2013, Woodward had a list of standard candidates. There was Jim Mora Jr., a Washington alumnus who had gone 19–8 in his first two seasons at UCLA. There was Justin Wilcox, an up-and-comer who had served as Washington’s defensive coordinator under Sarkisian.

But as Woodward considered these names, he got a call from Bennett Speyer, who represented Chris Petersen. Petersen had decided the timing was right to leave Boise State, and Washington fit what he sought in a Power 5 job. Woodward’s response: “WHAT?” His next thought? “Let’s get it done,” Woodward says. “It literally went down that fast.”

How is pulling a well established HC from a school he hasn’t wanted to leave previously having him fall Into your lap?

Urban fell into Ohio States lap. You could argue Saban fell into Alabama’s.

Yes. Jay Johnson wasn’t his first choice.

When he isn't on your list of coaches and his agent calls you to express interest.

But kudos to Woodward for getting right on that. I trust Scott to hire the right guy.

Chris PETERSEN is Woodward's hire for LSU Football. The Jimbo talk was all smoke. The Riley talk was all smoke. Their agents just kept rolling that shite out there. Chris PETERSEN is our new coach.
