I’m no fan of the hire, but I’m not gonna sit around pissed for 9 months waiting to see if he succeeds or not. How hard is it for a young guy like him to implement more of a run game than he’s done at USC and maybe add in some RPO concepts as well?

Better question. Why conduct this experiment with a guy who literally runs Mike Leach's offense?

OK, but you're missing a really good chance to melt on an anonymous message board.

Depends how well he can adapt.

In his 2 seasons at USC when it comes to the run game specifically it appears he hasn't adapted.

In Leach/Harrell's offense they throw to spots on the field, coverage be damned. It's a recipe for disaster in the SEC. There's a reason State threw 18 interceptions in 10 games this year. We threw 9 with two true freshmen playing the majority of the season.

Before you say this, let’s look at some numbers. Most would think that because Harrell played at Tech, he would run the same offense. However that’s not true

USC 60/40 pass/run
USC Team Stats

Miss State 77/23 pass/run
MS State Team Stats

LSU is 55/45 in comparison

Let’s do a little research before jumping to these conclusions

He doesn't. What he runs is closer to LSU's.

half the fanbase will be pissed regardless of who is hired. People just like to bitch.

Harrell literally checks off all the boxes Tiger fans have been screaming for several years now, but if he's hired, he will be the "wrong guy."

If O picks him, they’ll hate the hire. Doesn’t matter who it is. If it’s a good hire, they’ll give Woodward the credit for hiring him.

Watch this video, previously posted by someone in another thread. If it doesn't terrify you I don't know what to say.

And that 60/40 offense got him a whopping two time trip to the bottom ten in the nation in rush offense.

Just because they aren’t good at running the ball doesn’t mean they aren’t trying to

I wish I hadn’t. LSU’s offensive philosophy is the exact opposite of everything that kid said. Harrell offensive strategy:

- run the same few plays over and over.
- run those plays no matter what the def gives you.
- doesn’t care about a balanced offense nor run game.

Coaches are awarded for trying hard now? Should he get a participation trophy or a cookie?
