i don't think Pittman is a bad hire. like i said, i only made this thread b/c of how batshit most of the Arky posters were the past week. this spin is just the final form of that insanity

All fanbases do this. It's the glorious world of being a die-hard fan.

We simply don't have a choice but to dig into it and try to find the positives because it's done and this is where we stand.

I guess we could revolt and never watch Hog football again.

Yeah, but our total staff payroll is the opposite of cheap. So if schools go cheap head coach, they better spend some serious money on coordinators and assistants (and shadow staff). That is why Orgeron's model works. He is building a very expensive army.

Word is that is what Arkansas has done here. Supposedly Sam has about 8-10 mil a year to work with. I would imagine his salary will be in the range of 2.5-3mil and then the rest to hire coordinators/assistants.

If that is the case, he should be able to put together a pretty good staff.

if he wins a natty it's going to be interesting to see what salary he demands. if it's over $5M/year things will get dicey

we're paying Aranda $2.5M/year and will likely be paying Brady and E almost $3M combined next year. Frank Wilson likely will command $1M/year b/c of how hot he'll be this offseason. that's a lot of doge

You're a smart guy SFP, but you're wildly overstating things here

quote:

well oiled machine that was built by Les Miles

and here

quote:

the "Orgeron blueprint" was almost over last year. if OSU chooses Burrow or if Burrow doesn't choose LSU, then it's very likely O is fired last year. we would have been utterly terrible on offense and likely a 5 or 6 win team (hence why those were our projections last year pre-Burrow)

Les left O with some talent, but some holes as well, especially in the trenches. We went into the 2017 Florida game with 5 healthy scholarship OL. We went into the 2017 MSU game with 4 healthy scholarship DL. We were thin at LB to the point that Aranda publicly commented that we had more scholarship kickers than inside LBs. Compare that to where we are now. O took a flawed machine, ordered the right replacement parts, and made the correct fixes.

O would not have been fired last year if Burrow didn't come to LSU. The only game we probably would have lost without him was @Auburn. A 9-4 finish would have made O's seat warm for sure. But 5 or 6 wins? Come on man.

No, but I don't think we only win 5 or 6 last year without Burrow. 8 or 9 is more likely.

The ROI will still be there in spades if we win the Natty.

I read an article a couple years back (I think by WSJ) that said Saban was actually worth over $20m a year due to the direct and indirect revenue from Alabama's football success. Enrollment was up, donations were way up for both academic and athletic sides, they were able to fund more scholarships, admission standards raised, obviously direct ticket and merch revenue was sky rocketing, etc.

I think Woodward of all people will be able to see the value in maintaining an elite program and will do whatever it takes.

Every situation is different. Credit to LSU’s AD to think outside the box and not just follow the standard playbook of going after the next hot name or offering the world to an established coach. LSU found the right coach for them. On paper, although it doesn’t follow the standard new hire playbook, Pittman looks like he could be the right guy for Arkansas at this time.

What’s the success rate following the standard hiring model? Well less than 50%, I know that much.

Guess again, there were people legitimately arguing he should have been given more time. They were not trolling either.

yeah i'm thinking they win 7-8 with mcmilan at the helm. i remember the spring reports coming out before we got burrow. brennan wasn't pulling away from mcmilan. and all the "ride with jmac" posters were out .

"lsu just needs a game manager "

I'm not sure either, but SFP was acting like a no-Burrow 2018 would have surely been 5 or 6 win doom. I guess I have more confidence in the program as a whole, and the level of athlete we recruit here. 8-9 wins with Brennan/McMillan as opposed to the 10 we got with Burrow seems most likely to me.
