Trading one failed NFL OC for another. FFS Ed.

I’m not leaning one way or another, but help me out on this...

What’s the downside to Lombardi?

He failed as an OC, I see. He was in Detroit for 2014 and 2015.

Detroit went to the playoffs in 2014 at 11-5. Stafford had playmakers such as Jouqie Bell at RB with a washed up Reggie Bush. To be fair, he had Calvin Johnson but he didn’t even lead his team in receiving. It was Golden Tate.

The next year you have no RB because you have Abdullah as your starter and Bell backing him up. Stafford still threw for 4300 yards.

Can we at least attribute a lot of issues here with rosters? I mean, Detroit has had basically the same roster management for years. Since 2000, Detroit made the playoffs 3 times. One of them was with Lombardi as the OC.

Did I miss something? Is he hard to work with ? Why was he a disaster in Detroit where NO ONE is successful? I’m just looking at numbers here, so I don’t know how easy or difficult he may or may not be to work with as an OC.

Where was the breakdown?

Which qb is running them? You have a very limited number who do snd the saints are not one for sure.

He has a lot of pros but his second season in Detroit was a failure and they had a lot of talent. But Detroit is pretty much always a failure like you said.

I was against it, but after making the thread with all the stats for OCs mentioned here.... yea I have warmed to the idea greatly.

I would like to see Callaway in some role and someone to help with the rpo side, may e that is Callaway, I dunno though as he is almost exclusively air raid in the past.

2015 Lions

Stafford
Abdullah (R)
Joique Bell
Calvin Johnson
Theo Riddick
Golden Tate

Stafford and Johnson are really the only A+ talents there.

If we’re looking at production on offense, he made Tate and Riddick look WAY better than what they actually were. Riddick had his “breakout” year in 15 under Lombardi. Arguably his career year.

At the time, the general consensus in Detroit was they thought he would be bringing the Payton offense over with him but he was mostly clueless on how to implement it, game plan, call plays, etc

Basically what the rant doesn’t understand. Being around a guy and having his playbook doesn’t make you him

Stafford was a damn good qb and tate/Johnson were prolly the best wr combo in the league.

I'm not saying he sucks but his second season they struggled.
