That was obvious a couple of years ago.

I think people really overrate his "struggles" in his two years in the NFL.

The guy was 9-7 and 6-10. It was a bad choice on Culpepper over Brees but he trusted his team doctors and their opinions.

I think he couldn't stand the media more than anything in the NFL and likely wasn't really ready to handle the GM and HCing duties. I don't think there has been a Super Bowl winning coach that has held both duties yet, if I am not mistaken.

That said, I think he'd be a fine coach in the NFL, but people have to have patience. Him succeeding in year 1 like he did at Miami was the biggest issue he had. People just expected that team to be a huge juggernaut too quickly. They were 4-12 before he took over.

They had a horrific start with Culpepper of 1-6 and they never recovered. They finished the season 5-4, but people just gave up on him.

In the end, he could be a great NFL coach, but he has to be in the right situation, much like Belichick was when he got to NE after his issues in Cleveland.

I can't compare the postgame demeanor, but I do think it's not out of the realm of possibilities Saban could be leaving.

Look at Pete Carroll. I know USC's probation was a big factor in him leaving, but since he's left, he's accomplished big things at Seattle after two lackluster stints with the Jets and Patriots. I also think it's unfair to call Saban a bust in the NFL. He had one winning season and then the bottom fell out because of the Dolphins quarterback situation.

If I were him and Atlanta came calling, I'd consider it. Matt Ryan is a solid quarterback. You have Julio Jones and you're going to get another reasonably high draft pick this season. Atlanta has 10-11 win talent on that roster and they just need a good coach.

I don't see him going to the Jets, Giants or any other job that would require significant rebuilding.

But the Falcons? Easily.

I'd be surprised if left Bama for another coaching job but I'd be even more surprised if he doesn't retire within 2-3 years. But I don't know if he'll stay retired, it might not agree with him.

It takes a certain mentality and drive to become as great as he has become. And I think it chaps his arse that he actually failed at Miami. I could see him wanting another chance to coach in the NFL.
