If Urban Meyer decides to stay retired… Ohio St coach Ryan Day is a potential target, sources say.

The #Jaguars have held off making a firm and final decision on coach Doug Marrone, but sources say they will likely move on from him. Expect Urban Meyer to be a top target. My story:

Are they targeting Fields or something? Why they enamored with two OSU coaches or is it just coincidence

Then you will see the domino start. Fickel and Freeman to OSU

OSU is a better job than Jax.

I think Ohio State is the best job in college football, whether that’s better than an NFL job depends on your preference

The Jags were a pubic hair from the Super Bowl just a couple years ago

It’s certainly a better job than any college job.

Depends on if someone prefers college.

What you want in an NFL job is an owner that lets the football people do their jobs without meddling and isn’t overly cheap, doesn’t have to over spend but don’t be cheap (and not just on salaries).

Jaxville has the #1 pick with a potential franchise QB and iirc some cap space. Could be a very good job. Most will mistake it being a small market with low fan support for being a bad job but as you noted they were in the AFCCG a couple years ago with Blake Bortles

True. But Ryan Day is a Chip Kelly guy, played for him and coached under him in the NFL.

He could certainly take the same path as Kelly...or possibly be scared off by it. We’ll see.

I’m not sure why any sane person would leave a humming Ohio State program for Jacksonville. I get it’s the NFL but if Day keeps Ohio State on this level there will be NFL opportunities every year

Unless it’s one with an established QB getting a job with the #1 pick and a clear #1 QB is hard to top

That said if it was me I’d never leave Ohio St

Why Jacksonville?

Have you ever been to Jacksonville? It sucks.

That 10 win season was a major outlier. Their second best season in the last decade was 6-10.

They’ve had a grand total of 4 winning seasons in the last 20 years.

A good coach and a franchise QB can make all the difference, but the Jags have been a terrible franchise for years.

Ryan Day has simply maintained what Urban Meyer built. It's in no way an indication that he is "the guy". I think many other coaches could have his success with their talent and the Big Ten schedule.

Except Day is doing better on the recruiting trail than Meyer did.

Also from one of Ohio State’s best beat reporters

quote:

From a *very* good source: Ryan Day is not interested in any job other than Ohio State

The Buckeyes coach isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

That source is Ryan Day

Yeah Ryan day is probably the 2nd best college coach right now. He has them recruiting at Saban's level and playing really good football on the field also.

What are you waiting for? Go start from the beginning to be a football coach and move up to be a top football coach and you could easily get your choice to coach at any college.
