I'd take Riley over Jimbo. I like his style offense much better and I think QB's will want to go play for Riley over Jimbo. Seems to be pretty good at developing QB's, probably better than Jimbo.

The only concern for Riley is evaluating and hiring a top DC. Jimbo knows how important the defense is in the SEC and has made a solid hire for DC. That is my only question mark around Riley.

I just find it kind of depressing that our seemingly top choices both got absolutely rinsed and dried by the guy we’re firing.

Any one of us could have stood on the sidelines that season, clapped and screamed "let's go" like a fool and had similar results.

It's obvious the strength of 2019 had very, very little to do with O in real time.

Agree ibldprplgld, 2019 was about the DC and incredible WR development and offense brought in by Brady. Not to mention the players that had to perform.
A team like that with the combination of talent at all positions and top coaching on both sides is rare.

I do credit CEO for realizing the Offense had to change and getting Brady here and talking Burrow into coming to LSU the year before.

But he had 2 opportunities to get his hiring right at the coordinator level and position levels and it has stunk. So to have a drop off like this after winning a title is unheard of.

He still won, correct?

At least try keeping the same line of thinking going

1) Bama is bad because LSU almost beat them. So that means Jimbo didnt do anything special

B) Riley is still a better coach because ;at least he won' those games that were too close for comfort, like Saban vs LSU

So if Riley is a great coach because he pulled out those wins, then same applies to Saban, right? Which means Jimbo still beat a great coach, and therefore better than Riley

The biggest difference in these 2 is cultural

Jimbo is very much old school. Discipline is key. He likes guys that are solid on and off the field. He’s known for this. This is the reason why they say he’s a great fit at AtM because it’s quasi military school.

Riley might be the same way but he’s bot known for it. He’s a generation behind Jimbo and probably relates to his guys better but isn’t known to be a hard arse discipline guy. Not saying he’s lac but his methodology is probably different.

Both guys know talent. Both guys know offense. Riley’s offense is more modern.

Similarly can his offensive style translate to SEC play? Even with a great QB you have to be able to run the ball.

His running game has never been terrible and in years past it’s been top 20

Riley is the younger, more innovative coach no doubt.

Jimbo is the better recruiter. From a risk perspective you have to take into account NFL aspirations when it comes to Riley.

Jimbo followed Bowden but then went to A&M and has show that he can put his mark on the program

I sawa stat earlier this year that Jimbo and Sumlin’s records were identical through their first 3 or 4 years. I wouldn’t say he built A&M.

WTF happened at FSU post-Winston? It was worse than LSU post-Burrow.

Was it?

FSU two years post Winston
10-3 ranked #14 lost Peach Bowl
10-3 ranked #8 won Orange Bowl

LSU two years post Burrow
5-5 unranked no bowl game (self imposed)
4-5 currently, best (and unlikely) outcome 8-5 Thinking 5-7 or 6-7 if a bowl game is most likely.

I am bewildered at the negativity over Jimbo. He has won everywhere he's been. His Aggie team vs. Sumlin's team isn't even close. They are likely going to end up in the top 10 for the second year, and he's doing it with a backup QB who took a month to get his legs under him.

He will crush it at LSU. Reilly is a little more exciting, but if it's Jimbo, there are no concerns at all that we will compete for national championships in 2-3 years.
