Before O was officially hired, I think it’s safe to say a lot of you wanted Tom Herman to be LSU’s HC. I was even hoping he would be hired. But he went with Texas. How well did that work out for Texas? Texas/LSU apples and oranges maybe. But he was the “sexy” choice for HC. Don’t always assume the trending upward coach is the best choice, again, as Texas found out.

Either there are under the radar guys that can come in and make a splash, or they could go with someone who isn’t necessarily a popular choice (Mel Tucker apparently). Just reserve judgment until you see results.

I actually wanted Jimbo. He hasn't exactly been a world beater at A&M, but still... I didn't want Herman.

I think people are being too hard on Tucker because of the perception (rightly or wrongly) that his name is out there solely because of his race.

When you’re look into him a bit there’s a lot to like, though it’s also true he doesn’t have any skins on the wall at this point. It’s a risk but you can’t say Billy Napier isn’t a risk as well.

If we can’t get a top tier coach I don’t think he’d be a bad choice at all.

I’d take Herman now as the OC with his buddy Aranda as HC

This is right without question. Most of his detractors seem to be based on the fact that he’s black and would only be a “woke,” under qualified, affirmative action, Tate CRT hire. And granted, he’s not been a HC for very long. But they seem to not know or dismiss that he’s been a position coach and DC at Ohio State (where he was on a NC staff), been DC at 3 NFL organizations, was an interim HC in the NFL, was hired by Saban 3 times, the last making him not only DN coach, but assistant HC, Kirby brought him from Bama to be his DC at Georgia for 3 years, and he has gamed the portal system to turn around MSU really quick.

Most people only look at his HC resume. Which is somewhat fair. But he’s got a very nice resume previously. You don’t keep getting those prestigious jobs if you’re not respected and can’t coach. He wouldn’t be in my top 5. But I don’t think my top 5 will take the job. And Iam fine with him being in that 2nd tier and getting an interview with a chance to wow Scott with his vision much like Jay Johnson. Just don’t fall into the stereotype of the red neck not wanting him because he’s black and dismissing him solely because of the color of his skin.

Remember when O coached at Ole Miss?

Herman would have been fine at LSU.

Just because he got fired at Texas does not mean he wouldn't have been more successful at LSU.

You think you have some smart take here, but it's wrong. I said from day one not to judge how he would do there vs here. If O could win a Natty here then imagine an actual better coach. Perhaps could have had more sustained success.

If avg coaches like Miles and O can come in an already established LSU program then imagine an actual above avg HC. Imagine an elite coach here.

It's not hard to imagine it happened 22 years ago when we got Saban.

I still want Herman.

Texas boosters were too much in the cookie jar. Texas has been awful, straight dog shite before he turned it around.

They fired this man after going 7-3 in a covid year. He's had exactly 4 double digit losses at Texas, one was vs a TCU team that went 11-3 by 17 points (in his first year I might add), one was by 12 points vs a playoff 13-1 Oklahoma in the conference championship game, and one was bad and by 10 points vs a bad TCU team, and the last was by a 9-2 Oklahoma team by 10 points in 2020. His other 2 losses that final year were 3 point losses to 6-4 TCU and 9-3 Iowa St. But are we going to condemn for that him when Kirby Smart, and Ryan Day have done the same with much better teams?

He took a Texas team that was dysfunctional, full of themselves (the players were this time not just the fans), and had 3 straight losing seasons, and had a winning season year one. The very next year he won the most games in a season since their 2009 National Championship appearance. He definitely tapered off after, but we're talking a bunch of close wins even with a mediocre or bad defense.

That dude would lock down Louisiana and grab studs all over Texas. We'd never have to worry about QB prospects again. All he'd have to do was hire a decent defensive coordinator.

This is the post everyone should read. When you display all of his experience like that, you start to understand how good of a coach he is.

Dude, Saban at the time was an average coach at Michigan State when LSU hired him away.

I agree, but IF there is some wokeism behind our hire and IF we get to the Tucker level, I'd hope we just went with Aranda instead.

I think he could have as well, especially if a Unicorn like Burrow was still available in this alternate universe.

Saban turned down NFL HC jobs before taking LSU's job.
