I've seen several posts breaking down the career of Corey Raymond while at LSU and something is very obvious.

BK is making changes based on real tangible evidence of a coaches abilities. He isn't taking Jim Bob's word for how good a coach might be. We, fans, have gotten so use to mediocre coaching that we laud these coaches for their ability to recruit, or how much the players like them. What about their ability to coach?

The metric with which LSU's coaches are measured has clearly changed since the arrival of BK, and it's really eye opening. It's refreshing to think that LSU is hiring coaches based on their ability to coach.

Producing 7 all Americans and double digit numbers of DBs drafted in a 9-10 year run isn’t evidence of being a good cornerbacks coach, recruiter, and developer? I guess all the former and current players that praise how good of a coach he is and credit him a lot with their development don’t know what they’re talking about.

Most of your argument is fair, but the player's opinions are not. Most (if not all) former players go to bat for their coaches. I do not put any stock in what they say. They also defended Les Miles and Orgeron. It is called personal bias.

Sounds good until you look at the recent two years with our stars sitting out just waiting to get their money and not many corners coming. He has done a great job before then but as a thread said yesterday, it’s very likely this move will be good for both LSU and Florida. Raymond gets a wake up call and LSU gets a hungry coach coming in.

Compared to what, their highschool coach? Current players dont have any frame of reference for an actual eval… they’re talking about their feelings. And im very glad hes had a strong bond with players that have come through, thats great. Thats not the same as being a great developer of talent.

I dont think anyone can argue against his recruiting and relationship building with his units.

Exactly, stingley came in as freshman ready. Am i supposed to credit that to a coach?

Not for development, but for recruiting him absolutely.

He has recruited Plug and Play guys that have started but he has not done well on depth. When we have injuries/opt outs we need guys that can come in and not be spoon fed. The drop off is due to 2 things...lack of overall talent (lazy recruiting) and teaching the position (lack of true fundamental coaching!

These are the reasons for his departure. He probably was asked to do a little more and he said sure pay me and BK let him go.

Lol at thinking BK could grade Raymond negatively as a coach. As a "POSITION" coach his job is to get the best players here (check), develop them into the best players he can (check), and get them ready for the next level (check). For those that don't know him Corey is a good a dude as Moffit and Frank so all that culture talk is bull. As far as players quitting and the overall team culture thats what you have a damn head coach for. If Corey's job was to get the guys here, coach them, keep them satisfied, manage parents going on radio shows and altering the direction of the kids thinking hell I would leave too because thats the head coaches responsibility.

TLDR: OPs theory is arse.

Edit: not to mention talent evaluation. We don't always get the best corners and most folks second guess him when he brings in those long rangy corners until they start playing and exceeding expectations. Outside of Surtain he doesn't lose many guys he wants unlike other positions on the team and aside from a few min incidents the DB rarely have off the field issues. C'mon

So you saying you don’t think Kelly is relying heavily on input from
Other coaches/resources on prospective hires? Newsflash all coaches do.

Apparently not. A pair of former Oklahoma DBs have trashed Kerry Cooks as being garbage lol

The players on the team hated Bo Pelini.

You’re right. We need to get back to assistants like we had when we posted the greatest season in college football history long ago.

Oh wait...

I don’t disagree that CBK is taking a more analytical approach. However, depending on what the HC wants his teams to look like, good coach/bad coach is sometimes subjective.

Les Miles and Ed Orgeron were fired because of the trends in their leadership of the program.

Now look at Raymond’s trends with his recruiting and his elite DBs hurt and opting out or transferring.

No one said that Raymond wasn’t successful at his job at one point at LSU, but look at the direction the DB room has turned.

And Joe Burrow would tell you that Ed Orgeron is the GOAT coach. You wanna keep Ed O?

He’s arguably gotten worse every year he’s been here.

Your right that is a very nice body of work. It seems like BK feels like maybe CR was a better recruiter than coach. How many of those players would have had sucess without CR being their coach. How many were just really good and all they needed was a college enviroment to excell? It looks like to me BK hired Frank to lock up recruiting and feels like there are better coaches for what he is trying to do. Not saying he is right but I am kind of digging his leadership.

I think it’s mostly about recruiting
