But great news for LSU, if he stays. Recruiter of the Year (by Rivals.com) two of last three years, and is a great coach. However, I'm sure he'd like to get a head coach job. I mean, it's not like LSU would ever hire him (and we all know why)...

it would almost seem to be a lateral move to me if he went to Memphis as a coordinator, can't imagine he'd be paid more there

It's not about the pay....If he wants to one day be a HC he has to get some OC experience, he's not jumping from RB coach to HC......He'll never be a coordinator here.

I don't see why Porter would never be a coordinator at LSU. your buddy saban hired applewhite as oc at bama when he had 1 year oc
experience at rice and "maybe" 4 years exp. as a position coach. porter is over that already.

all OCs don't have the same responsibilities. for ex. some OCs are not QB coach and some OCs don't call the plays

Thanks for your contribution. Tell me how it's stupid to say that as Miles' top assistant coach (at LSU and Okla. State) that LSU would hire him as its head coach. Not now, but in the next 4-5 years.

He's got 3 strikes against him right now: He's too close to Miles for our fan-base, he needs to be an OC for a few years (though even as a head coach at a school like Memphis would make up for that), and he's black.

Also, you are aware that Porter has served as Assistant Head Coach for the past 4 years at LSU, right? And Chief Recruiter, as well?

He's a great recruiter, but he leaves something to be desired as a position coach.

It's the bolded part (which you were obviously implying) which I believe is utterly stupid.

LSU would hire a black coach in a second if they thought he was the right hire.

I don't think Porter is qualified as a coordinator much less a head coach, but it isn't because he's black.

The story that I am told is that FedX, Smith, has a son on the Memphis team, QB. He is helping to call the shots. He likes the 2 coaches. Gray is in his late 40s and Porter...30s. Gray will bring some pro style O with him, and some coaches, too. This would be a great chance for Porter to become a co-ordinator with some pro oversight. Might be a big help.

I added the #s in an effort to make it easier for you to understand ALL that I wrote.

No. 1: Please tell me you do see the irony in that YOU chose to add the bold-face to THAT portion of the post. Please? Also, you can't know, or much less even prove, what I was "obviously implying."

No. 2: OK, that's your opinion. But, just as you don't know what I was "obviously implying," I can't--and won't--say whether you're right or wrong (or stupid). I am, however, curious about just who are all these black coaches LSU or "he" (not certain whom you're referring to) might be the "right hire." Can you provide some names?

Take another look at my post, below. I'll selectively change the text to bold this time: "Tell me how it's stupid to say that as Miles' top assistant coach (at LSU and Okla. State) that LSU would hire him as its head coach. Not now, but in the next 4-5 years.

No. 3: I also don't think he has enough experience now to be an OC or head coach at LSU. This is why I believe, as I said, that Porter has "3 strikes against him right now: He's too close to Miles for our fan-base, he needs to be an OC for a few years (though even as a head coach at a school like Memphis would make up for that), and he's black.

How many black head football coaches are there in the SEC? How many at the BCS-Conference schools? How many at the other top-tier D-1 colleges? Just 2 seasons ago, Sly Croom at Miss. State was SEC Coach of the Year, and was fired the next. I don't think that race will be as much of an issue in the future is it is today, except in certain parts of the country. Which is why I said, "Not now, but in the next 4-5 years."

You never answered these questions:
"Also, you are aware that Porter has served as Assistant Head Coach for the past 4 years at LSU, right? And Chief Recruiter, as well?"
"Assistant Head Coach," at a great school like LSU, isn't just a figure-head title, nor is "Chief Recruiter," esp. since Porter's earned well-deserved national recognition as the No. 1 recruiter nationally 2 of the last 3 years.

As SFP correctly stated in another thread, if Porter ever wants to be more than a RB coach(and don't give me that Assistant HC crap), then he needs to leave LSU.

After Malveto, LSU isn't promoting a position coach to coordinator anytime soon.

Porter needs to prove himself as a coordinator at a mid-major or lower level BCS school first.
