Well, if he were doing the same things like he was doing at Ole Miss and as bad as a HC he is even after that, one would think his record would be, at minimum, .500
I think most would agrees he's probably improved since ole miss. The question is by how much? We don't know because he hasn't run a program since then.
People always improve through life. But to think he's gone from a 27% winning percentage to maybe 80%? That's highly unrealistic for anyone in any profession.
He literally had the worst sec coaching record in history...now you're asking him to win NCs. I just don't see it.

USC and LSU were extremely talented teams underachieving...Coach O comes in, changes things that everyone is unhappy about and the players and coaches are having fun and they win games...easy to do in an interim basis...can't really judge him on that. I have doubts on him lasting past 2 or 3 season if he is hired and if he makes one bad coordinator hire he might not last that long.

Ewwwww. That's not so pretty anymore.

That's all fair.
At the same time, I don't think it's fair not to consider him at all.

I'm not saying don't consider him...but at least 8 or more people need to say no first. LSU is not Mississippi St. They should be able to hire a proven coach.

quote:Nope. In fact, only one of the teams was even ranked. And he didn't beat any ranked teams at Ole Miss. That brings his grand total of ranked wins to........1
This isnt exactly a murderers row of teams here.

Lol at someone saying he should go to Kentucky. He's the next hot coach after Herman. Oregon, USC, Michigan State, FSU, Penn st would be more likely.

Half our board would rather have Fleck over Chip Kelly returning.

This isnt very impressive
Ok. That's fine. But every bit of this conversation is all speculation.
So hypothetically, if O wins out and/or beats BAMA, why wouldn't your opinion change?

because you dont fire miles midseason, buy him out for 10 million, and then promote the dline coach as the head coach.

I look forward to Orgeron getting LSU put on probation.

I got news for you. With the exception of his failure at Ole Miss as a HC (which he's owned and learned from), his resume is pretty damn impeccable. Couple that with his strong Louisiana ties.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh, people don't want to go into this coaching search with an open mind!!!!!

David Cutcliffe was a shitty recruiter, that's why he was fired
Then O comes in improves recruiting, doesn't win many games, fired after 3 years
Nutt comes in takes O's recruits, goes to back to back cotton bowls then the talent leaves and he runs the program into the ground. That 11 team was worse than any of CEO teams
So who know what happens if he gets a 4th year
Ole miss also had a bad AD at the time, bad facilities, and boosters that wouldn't spend money
O shouldn't be first or second choice but I think he would do well here
First of all, I was at Ole Miss during the Orgeron and Nutt years.
They could've had the talent from the 85 Bears on that team and Orgeron would've lost every game.
He was the worst in game coach I've ever seen. On any level. In my entire life.
And according to several players I am still friends (white boy backups) with, he had a complete and total lack of organization control and had no clue how to manage a program. Complete disorganization. They loved him, but he was not suited to lead a major program.
He is perfect as an interim because he the only thing needed really is motivation, to keep up recruiting, and to generate excitement with the players and fanbase.
He didn't hire these coaches, pick these players, or put in this system. This is not his program. History is filled with successful interim coaches that are terrible head coaches.
Did he learn from Ole Miss? Maybe. Are we the program that needs to find out? No.
Again, if this guy was from New Jersey, nobody would want him.
And to your point, Orgeron was far worse than both his predecessor and successor. He is the worst coach in Ole Miss history. Who knows if he got a 4th year you say? Well I'll say this, he got progressively worse each year which is the wrong trend, but I guess he couldn't get much worse in year 4 than his 0-8 SEC record in year 3 with all of his players and his system finally in place.
