we’ve fired two national championship winning coaches and one of them just two years later

EVERY good coach understands why. This is a non issue. An opposing, anonymous SEC coach was quoted this preseason as saying “LSU is a dumpster fire. Woodward won’t let what’s been happening continue. He’s going to clean house”. Everyone knows why Les and Ed were fired, and that we won championships despite them and not because of them
quote:

The fans and administration expect championships but as you’ve seen with the sec this year, the league is deeper and almost team can go down from week to week

The league is actually pretty thin this year. An elite coaching staff would be in the playoffs this year at LSU
quote:

So why wouldn’t these coaches such as Luke fickle, billy Napier, James Franklin and Dave Aranda just stay at their current jobs getting paid millions and celebrated for going 9-3 or 10-2, where as those records at LSU could land a coach on a hot seat.

I think our admin and fanbase is much more objective than you’re aware of. No one wanted O or Les fired because they were 9-3, they wanted them fired because the product on the field and their lack of ability to run a solid program was apparent and that’s why we’re 5-6 right now. Everyone with a brain could see this collapse coming from a mile away while people like you cried about our unrealistic expectations

Oh yea, LSU is a top 3 job in the country. GFY

Les wins with Saban left overs. O wins because of Burrow. Chisick wins cause of Newton. Hellman is a winner because of Farve. Guy from Florida State is a winner because of an he had. Moral of the story is athletic directors do not do their jobs

.500 or worse for 2 straight seasons is unacceptable. Blame on whatever the fook you want, but ultimately it’s on the HC to stay afloat.

Thankful for the championships Les and O are responsible for but all good things must come to an end, and I’m glad we aren’t going to see underachieving talent for 5+ years too long under O like we saw from Les.

What you’ve also seen is that LSU is one of only a small number of programs capable of winning a championship, and the coaches you mentioned weren’t fired just for failing to win additional championships.

I heard it called a Top 10 job in all of football, including the NFL. Certainly is a Top 5 college job.

LSU basically recruits for itself. No in state Power 5 competition for a slew of athletes. The facilities are practically brand new. One of the most prolific atmospheres in college football. Financial support that can be matched by almost none. Unrelenting fan support, even when things aren’t perfect. LSU is a historic school with a lot of tradition. There are a lot of reasons why a coach would want to come here.

So are national championship winning coaches supposed to get lifetime contracts?

Miles was fired over a decade after he won and 5 years after he lost one.

O was fired because he basically quit doing his job after he won, or when it became obvious that he had barely anything to do with one he actually won.

Any coach worth his salt knows that les and O had fizzled out and didn't have the ability to fix their issues.

Secondly these coaches are narcissist, they want to win at the highest level. I'm sure there are a few that are content on staying at smaller schools but most want the big jobs.

Thirdly you could use the expectations argument for EVERY top 10 job. We are no different than a bunch of school.

We'll know a lot more when the hire is made. If the job is as universally awesome as we think it is, then someone like Riley will jump. If Mark Stoops steps to the podium ...

You say this like he would be a bad hire. He’s not the sexy pick, but you could do a lot worse than Mark Stoops.

That's the point. "You could do worse" isn't a quote I'd associate with a slam dunk Top 5 job.

I don’t think any LSU fan who’s being honest would be happy with that hire.

If O wasn't a complete buffoon he wouldn't have been fired. Miles was slamming coeds and still took years to get fired....this take is shite
