Lots of talk on their 247 board about Daronte Jones being the leader to be their new DC

Good for them and good opportunity for him if he goes there.

Penn St knows defense. He did a great job after O stopped tampering with the defense.

He did 10× better vs Bama, than the "elite" defense of Georgia did. And that was with 9 starters out for us.

Good for him if true. Able to avoid the O stink enough to get a nice job, wish him well

We all throw around TYFYS a lot on here.
But I would mean it a little bit more if he left. The dude really progressed as a coach and put together one of the best game plans against bama I’ve seen given the circumstances.

PSU would be getting a pretty good one. We need to nail these hires, I trust Kelly though.

Good for Daronte. Hope it works out for him.

ETA: Should save us some buyout money as well.

I almost want us to get shredded in the bowl game then win it despite bad defenses so it will shut up all the simps on this board.

How do you guys know Blake didn't have a big part in this defense second half? You know he was a DC right and probably is leaving for a DC job on top of being hired to LSU to help Jones? Since y'all like to throw speculation around as fact I'm going with he was the reason defense progressed. God knows the LBs sure did.

Say what you want about him, the last month of the year our defense was stellar and I think A lot had to do with O letting him coach.

The question is, how much of our success against Bama was just us coming out in a completely different defense than they were prepared for?

anyone know how the assistant coaches buyouts work? Are they offset by their new salary or do we pay out regardless?

I’m sure game planning is a team effort b/w Blake and Daronte but in the games, I believe Daronte is calling the shots. And since bama he has shown he has lots of potential and likes to be aggressive.

I’d still prefer a splash hire DC but it’s hard not to give this dude some credit.

I think Jones did a good job last part but it's not enough sample size to keep him here. We can't risk progressing with a new regime to keep a coach who potentially needs to learn on the job. We've seen enough from him to know he has a major flaw in that he can't make game time adjustments. Between that and his pay grade, his production doesn't match the pay. LSU throwing out "highest paid DC" numbers that's elite and could potentially even poach an NFL name somewhere. Maybe not an NFL DC but still a big name to be DC at LSU.

There's way too many question marks that remain with Jones. Didn't O even mention he needed help with analysts on the scheme? How much of this increase in production was Jones and not other guys like Blake on staff who's a DC himself at a position coach? How much did O meddle? Can he adjust to anything or is he still learning? Will he ever make fluid adjustments in the game something he didn't do all season? Will he ever learn to recruit because he's dead weight here?

Too much to question for BK which is probably why he will not be retained. I'm thinking BK really wants a DC who can recruit and scheme. That's probably why someone like Golding is being floated. While I'm not the highest on him, he makes plenty sense as he's an excellent schemer and recruiter. BK himself isn't going to light the world on fire in recruiting so Jones is complete dead weight to him just in this area. He needs to nail the DC hire too because he's giving them full control. Jones is too risky with his arse on the line.

If he stays or leaves, I think he will do really well.

LSU going to let him walk only to downgrade at DC. Stupid decision to let him walk unless we get a home run hire.
