OU lurkers…Why’s there no smoke from OU on a new contract raise/extension for Riley?

Why’s there no smoke from OU on a new contract raise/extension for Riley?

Unlike MSU with Tucker, are they fumbling the ball, or have they proposed one but not announcing it because he won’t sign?

Seems like two weeks with another major program reportedly going all in for him, OU should be falling all over themselves to end the chatter, no?

OU fans want to fire Riley for talking to us. Their feelings are hurt.

Because no credible source has verified that LSU has that offer on the table. I’ve listen to dozens of podcast and OU radio stations and nobody has even mentioned it as a real possibility

Most people have shot down the 96M rumor

He will play out this season and get his normal raise like he always does. Nothing to see

Maybe OU is not worried at all because they know he isn't leaving, or maybe they just decided not to play in a bidding war.

This, in part.

There is no one on the OU side of things that is even taking this stuff seriously. Everyone who covers OU or has sources at OU is going about business as usual. Former players, Bob Stoops, everyone. I haven't seen one person give it credence. When the topic is brought up, it's met with laughs.

OU is in the middle of a season in which they're 10-1. Are they legit natty contenders? No, not exactly, but OU isn't a program that'll intentionally mail it in. Not in their DNA. It's Bedlam week, not contract extension week.

As to why they aren't announcing an extension....

Why would they? Where's the proof that an offer was made? Jboy? TigerBaitLawyer? Pssh.

Let's pretend there was an LSU offer and Lincoln declined it, why does OU need to validate anything? If LSU offered, and OU countered, Lincoln knows it and OU can and will announce it how they see fit.

OU's AD is one of the best in the business. He's the longest tenured AD in the nation (1998-present). He's also the 3rd highest paid AD at almost $3mm a year. He runs OU efficiently and not chaotically. There's no reason to announce an extension, if there is one, in the middle of a conference race/playoff run (very small chance at this point).

People can’t seem to understand this. Somehow they think the fact that OU hasn’t issued a statement means he’s coming.

Woodward is a stud but Joe C is the best in the business.

Many of us are wondering the same thing. I have a source that says the offers on the table but Riley won’t negotiate during the season. My source says that Riley wants to stay but that he’s intrigued by Woodward’s offer. I’m told that our AD won’t go past 10 million.

The longer our season goes on the more likely Riley stays. You guys can offer him more than us as far as salary, facilities, support staff, etc. If Riley overplays his hand in leveraging a better deal for himself things could get interesting.

Another question is how badly does SW want Riley? Is he willing to wait until our season is over?

To be fair we're riding with posts from randos on the internet.

Also people can’t seem to understand it’s not always about money

His best chance to win a title is the next 2 year window

Play in the B12 with a Heisman level QB and be favored in every game or go rebuild a program in the SEC West ?

OU will up him to 10 and he will stay.

I think that’s for sure the (multi)million dollar question. I know the fan base is getting restless, but level heads always knew going into this process that:

1) SW likes to land big fish
2) No big fish is getting landed or announced before reg season ends, at least
3) Big fish usually aren’t done coaching until January
4) SW is a lot more patient and calculated than the rant

I was more curious OU’s take on this and why they haven’t been publicly proactive like MSU has been.

Of course. I don’t know who you’re most reliable insider is on your guys side but I’d be happy to exchange info as it comes along.

Neither do we. We just ride with the one that provides info we like.

Tigerbaitlawyer is probably the most reliable. So far, the only real info he has provided is that SW made Lincoln an offer, and I think he insinuated that the offer was later upped to a level that any sane person would accept if OU didn't match.

ETA: Then again TBL may be as full of crap as everyone else on here, but he at least seems level-headed and consistent.

Pretty much the same I’ve heard from listening to sports radio that covers OU and reading on the boards. Nobody on the OU side seems to be concerned at all. A friend of mine knows a recruit and current player and said his mom has even been told by Lincoln himself that he’s not leaving. Which again what’s he really supposed to say to them but at the same time Lincoln lying to a recruit would go against what he’s about from everything that’s even been said about him.
