Oklahoma is an offensive juggernaut with a QB whisperer as a head coach

Caleb Williams may be an extremely talented guy, but I have not been impressed by him.

I wonder just how much not being able to play last season hurt him?

It's silly people were once talking about him winning the Heisman this season.

If I’m not mistaken, Rattler and Williams were the #1 rated QB recruits in the nation the last two years.

Partially correct. Rattler was the 2019 class. Both were #1 though.

It's almost like there's some type of distraction going on within OU's program...

Agree. Williams passed up so many check downs today. If he would just take what the defense gives him. He’s a freshman and forcing the ball down the field way too much.

Judging Riley based on their current performance isn’t justifiable.

Yeah, Caleb is "meh" when it comes to passing.

So he can win games in different ways. Nice.

They also have a freshman QB who had a known issue with accuracy coming out of high school

Not really. OU has struggled against teams that have an average D.

OU vs:
Nebraska - 23 pts
WVU - 16 pts
Baylor - 14 pts
ISU - 28 pts (7 by D)

Versus really bad defenses:
Tulane - 40
WCU - 76
K State 37
TCU - 52
TTU - 52
Kansas - 35

They've stat padded against some horrible defense.

You can point that out. Others can point out the fact that he’s starting a true freshman at qb. His defense (Riley’s biggest ?) looked physical and was playing well. They played with the lead mostly. Why put an inexperienced QB in a position to make a mistake that could cost you the game. Looked like a winning game plan to me

There is enough of a sample size for LR regarding QB development that one year playing a true freshman shouldn't affect his reputation in that regard.

If he stays in Norman, let's see what Williams looks like his junior year and then judge.

209 yds rushing at 6 yds per. Good coaches take what the defense gives you, and ISU was coming at the QB all day. Honestly it looked like a well coached game on both sides.

Max and TJ as true FR playing an SEC schedule in 2020:
7 games: 2010 yds; 13 TDs/6 INTs

Williams vs Big XII this season as a FR
6 games: 1337 yds 15 TDs/4 INTs

Finley's 5TD/5 INT performance pulled the stats down, but Bama, A&M and Auburn were better than anything defensively OU has faced.

Ok, but who would you take to start a game right now, Finley/Johnson or Williams? What about in 2022?

To be fair, he’s playing a frosh because the #1 QB he recruited and developed for 2 years flamed out.
