As Tiger fans we can't believe Ed would choose Tenn over our beloved Tigers but, what we are not seeing is the truth. The truth is he made the best deciesion for his family with a job almost paying twice as much and a contract twice as long. As a bonus, Ed is a defensive guy and now he gets to work under the NFL's best defensive guru in Monty Kiffin. Thats like a coputer guy getting to work and train under Bill Gates. Wake up everyone this is a business for coaches. It's about their families and their well-being. Think about what you write, these coaches have kids reading this stuff...I can tell you if the deal would have been even close Orgeron would be a Tiger. We have always heard of an offer you can't refuse!!! he got one.
I don't know the full story but if O never actually told LSU that he accepted their offer, then I agree with you. On the other hand, if he did tell them he was coming then later renigged, then he acted dishonestly and I can understand peoples' reactions.
Of course, with some on here it doesn't matter. They couldn't care less about the people involved or their families as such, and while they expect undying loyalty to LSU from them, at the first sign of trouble (e.g. Mallory and Peveto) they are ready to run them out of town on a rail. Well you know what, Mallory and Peveto DID make a decision for LSU and helped win a NC, and see where it got them. I can certainly understand the position that they needed to be replaced, but I'll never understand the venom that comes from some people just because someone didn't perform as they expected. And don't tell me about how they got paid to do a job, because then you've just made the original poster's point about O.

I'm quite sure this is incorrect and even more sure that you have no idea if this is correct or not.

The truth is the man made a choice. If there were nothing like home and family stuff involved then he is simply choosing the "better" offer. LSU has better athletes right now and a higher profile right now...but at UT he will make more money, work under a notable DC from the NFL, and probably succeed him when he leaves in 2 years or so....its a better offer.
...unless you have real aspirations to someday be in the mix coaching at LSU. If that is a dream of yours then this was a poor decision because you burned bridges here. He is takng a chance that he has closed the door to working here.
But keep in mind...things change. If he pulls in top classes at UT and then lights it up as there DC later...all those bridges get rebuilt pretty quick.

Maybe I was shocked to finally see something that was logical...

Agree with all you said... except one small detail. I don't think Ed ever considered coming to LSU. He simply used us to leverage a better deal with Tennessee. He "Sabaned" us.

It amuses me that we are supposed to be "heart-broken" over anything that guy does. What a joke.

Got this from a poster on another board
"Went to the Quarter for New Years. Left Tuesday..came back last night. (too many gumps there...UGH) Saw Jack Del Rio at Antoines and Brittany Spears getting out of a limo as we left on New Years eve.
Saw the news on WWL Tuesday night that O was coming. Called my wifes uncle (works in Tenn athletic admin) told him what I saw. He laughed, said Ogres agent was playing LSU. Said O accepted the Tenn Job on Tuesday afternoon.
Tenn is going to be paying around 600K which is what his agent told Tenn they needed to offer. Said it was either stay with the Saints or go to Tenn. Said O was never serious about LSU and just used them to get his Saints contract upgraded then bargained it against Tenn's first offer (around 400K). He also said Chavis would not take having O forced upon him.
Ogre went exactly where I said he would all along, he followed the biggest bag of money. Just like 99% of all coaches.
In the end, we didnt need him anyway. I always questioned the move and glad it didnt happen. I think we were asking for trouble mixing O into the staff. Too many egos. We will be better than fine without him."

I'm really tired of hearing this in sports. Once you start making hundreds of thousands of dollars, you can throw this statement out the window. His family is already set and would have been fine with either school.
Lots of athletes choose, for example, 10 mil/yr over 8 mil/yr and say it was the best decision for their family...2 mil doesn't make a difference
just my opinion...i'm done now

Yep, I saw that defensive "guru-ness" on display as Kiffin the elder's Tampa D cratered coming down the home stretch.
Otherwise ...

...Yaw Yaw just wanted to "use" Tigah Land for leverage to skim some more cash from Vols - more than likely w/ "encouragement" from SuperAgent Jimmy "Bucks" Sexton ...Yaw Yaw is a head case anyway..."Wild Boys" to Vol Nation!
