No, Ole Miss is NOT a better job than Tennessee. Never has been, never we will be. If Tennessee actually wants Lane Kiffin, then Lane Kiffin will be in Knoxville next year. He’s been texting powerful Tennessee boosters this week telling them he’s “ready to come home”.

Ole Miss’s only chance in keeping Lane is to hope Danny White does not call him.

This whole comment is just beautiful. Fact of the matter is the last time Tennessee was relevant was the year seniors on your team were born. Assuming any remain on your team. Rats and sinking ships and all.

But I digress, really? He’s “texting boosters saying he’s ready to come home” I just don’t even know where to begin. I mean y’all are facing major sanctions after this disaster of a self investigation of a coach who is going to drag this out in order to get his buyout. Why on gods green earth would kiffin enter that clusterfrick. I don’t doubt he jumps in a few years. But it ain’t Tennessee. This isn’t 1999 anymore and you’re not relevant.

To be honest I want Lane Kiffin. If Tennessee calls, he’s coming home.

So now Lane is from Knoxville...its home for him since he spent two seasons there.

Matt Campbell rumors are swirling but I’d be shocked if that happened

I’m actually of the opinion that UTee can be relevant again with the right HC. They’re in the SEC, for chrissakes. It’s not like they’re Washington or Nebraska, stuck in a failing conference with their glory days far behind them.

But they have to ride out this storm first. Better to let Steele have the reins for at least a season or two until the NCAA determines what they will do.

You don’t back up the brinks truck for a guy like Danny white to come here and hire Kevin Steele. That’s not happening. They’re swinging for the fences with this hire. This is the most competent leadership Tennessee has had at the top in decades

You’d be smart to hire Bill Clark to navigate you through the shut show of the next few years. Let him stabilize and if needed you can make a different hire when this is all in the rear view.

If I was on Rocky Top , I would call Jeff Fisher, A respected HC who would do a Good Job there.

He said no to Texas. Didn’t even speak with them. Can’t see this job being the one he’s holding out for.

Swirling where? He’s be crazy to take that job after all the others he could’ve had. In another year he’ll have his pick of the open jobs with considerably less baggage and headaches than what Tenn brings at the moment.

The disadvantage of swinging for the fences is you have a much higher probability of striking out.

If White is as competent as you say he is, he’ll let Steele guide the ship for the next year at least. They will be in a much better position to do a coaching search in December than they are now.

On the local sportstalk they are saying Tennessee is willing to spend 7 mil a year for the right person. I will believe it when I see it.

If that's the case then they're going after someone that's proven. If they want anyone semi-decent to come in right now, they're going to have to give them a massive contract

FootballScoop says Tennessee has vetted PJ Fleck, Sonny Dykes, and Tony Elliot.

quote:

A little more than a year ago, Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck might have been the hottest name in college football coaching circles.

After all, Mr. Row The Boat had guided the previously downtrodden Gophers to an 11-2 season that included a stunning upset of Penn State and a season-ending win against No. 9 Auburn in the Outback Bowl.

Now Fleck is among the names that sources tell FootballScoop has been identified and vetted by Parker Executive Search for the opening at the University of Tennessee.

Multiple college football sources confirmed to FootballScoop Saturday that Fleck, Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott and SMU head coach Sonny Dykes are among those coaches being vetted for the Tennessee job. At least one of those coaches and his agent have reached out to gauge interest of assistant coaches around the country in a potential opportunity to join a staff on Rocky Top.

I joked on here last year that it was PJ’s destiny to row the boat with the Vol Navy. I might be right. I doubt that any of the three are the top candidates, but it certainly wouldn’t surprise me if they are being vetted just incase everything else falls through. Danny Whyte seems like the kind of person who knows what he’s doing.
