For all of you that are making fun of Auburn for not getting a top notch coach, look at your own team. LSU couldn't land a topnotch coach a year after a National Championship.

Disagree completely, but thanks for the laugh

You can "paint" it any way you want, but the fact remains that most experts would agree that Auburn could have done a lot better than Chizik.

At least Miles and Saban were proven winners before they came here. And I disagree that LSU didn't make a "splash" when they snagged Saban. I've got the old newspapers from around the counrty to prove it.

Well, last year when we thought Miles was going to Michigan, a lot of big time names came up- including Spurrier, Jack Del Rio, and Rich Rodriquez. Those are some big time names and I bet LSU could get 70%-80% of coachs in the country to come coach for us if we offered the same amount of money as their respective schools.

I do not recall us being the laughing stock of the SEC. I do recall 3 years in a row of 11 win seasons. LSU will be back. So bash the coach that got those 11 win seasons, I'm sure you'll be on of the first to jump back on the bandwagon as soon as we win another title.

People were stoic about the Miles hire as I remember. He was a moderately successful coach from a second fiddle school, much as Saban was. Both were known as great recruiters. Saban wasn't a household name at all when we hired him, and I do remember people bitching about how much we paid him.

At any rate, the reaction to the Miles hire is not even comparable to the Chizik reaction.

Considering who else they had on their board they sure did frick this up. Chizik could be a solid coach at Auburn but Turner Gill would've been a home run for sure..that guy is flat out great.

LSU is a job many football coaches would love to get.

We still are defending national champs.

We have had top recruiting class which will help us getting recruits.

We have great facilities and rabid fans.

We pay our coaches very well.

The only downer is that the SEC conference is seen as an extremely competitive conference where few coaches succeed.

please feel free to scan those and post those on here. Because, all i recall from people when Saban was hired was this response:

"Who?"

Same thing when we hired Miles. People were pissed that we settled for a second rate coach that hadn't proven anything. Your memories may have since faltered, but that's the way it was.

The positive for Miles was, "he did beat Bob Stoops twice."

The positive for Nick Saban was, "he's not Dinardo, and he didn't come from a losing Vanderbilt team."

Time proved that Saban was a great hire. And, time may prove the same for Miles. But, stop acting like we got who we wanted and we've proven we are a top notch opportunity by these two hires.

I do agree that Auburn made a horrible hire and that it is much worse than what we've made. I was just pointing out that our last two hires weren't considered "homeruns" when we made them.

Actually, you said we were a laughing stock.

There is a huge difference between that and "not a homerun".

So, which is it? Are you crawfishing on your stance?

No. Auburn didn't make a homerun hire and have become the laughing stock of the sec.

You still haven't produced evidence that people thought saban and miles were good hires for us. In fact, half of our own fan base doesn't even believe that miles is a good coach even after winning the mnc.

My entire point was to remind people that though I continue to hear differently, we've seen no evidence in the last 30 years that lsu is a top notch job offering. Well, unless you include the opinion of the rant and speculation. The facts are that we've gotten turned down by top notch coaches and have hired unproven, lower tiered coaches for 30 years.

This high and mighty lsu concept is a myth created by the hopeful.

The vast majority of coaching hires are hedged by an array of factors beyond a school's control. Pete Carroll was USC's THIRD fricking choice. And while I agree it's silly to assume LSU will always draw top drawer interest, it's equally silly to fret about it

Equating "no homerun" and "laughing stock" is ridiculous.

"No homerun" = "laughingstock" if, and only if, the questionable hired is followed by utter failure on the field.

Ed O meets this qualification. Chizik may or may not. There is no way in hell Miles does.

And pretending like we are something we are not is equally ridiculous.

We have not lured a top notch coach once. Making fun of auburn for failing to do what we have also failed at is ridiculous.

What the frick do you even mean?

Saban wasn't a top notch hire at all, but he became one. Carroll wasn't a top notch, as a matter of fact most USC fans were irate, but he became one.

We're laughing at Auburn because they really thought they'd get a Leach, Fisher, or Muschamp and they failed miserably. I'm not sure what your point is. "We have not lured a top notch coach once." By definition, successful coaches at top drawer programs won't be lured away. What would you even consider a top notch hire?

And, other teams' fans laughed at us because we thought we'd get butch davis, steve spurrier, jack del rio, etc. And instead we ended up with someone who was a mediocre coach at a lower tier school. Sound familiar??

Thanks for proving my point.
