Curious who will call the 3rd down plays.
I say we expand on the coach O script:
-Keep Peetz and let him call the plays
-Hire Rees for 3rd downs
-On 3rd and long Peetz will play rock paper scissors with Rees on who gets to call the play (best 2 out of 3 of we have a TO to burn)
-When we go for it on 4th, Peetz and Rees will both send plays to BK who will pick which one he likes the best
-On 3rd and goal, BK will call a timeout and get on a zoom call with Peetz, Rees and Lou Holtz to determine the best play to run
Efficiency is the name of the game here

These 2 The athletic ™ Notre Dame beat writers are melting the frick down. This reads like fan fiction. He had to tweet again to say but but uhhhh a lot of things are up in the air, after every reply pointed out how does the school negotiate for an OC without a HC who may not want him.

Inexperienced Freeman HC (great coach though)
Inexperienced Rees without Kelly
Seems like a bold strategy Cotton.
Especially when it is kind of known that Kelly was asked to be more hands off and let his coordinators have more control in 2016 which led to a 4 win season and then him proving his point.
I like Rees for his potential, but he is unproven without a seasoned play caller there. It’s a huge risk for ND, but sounds like they are desperate and really think they make the playoffs.

Rees is 100% pure Notre Dame. From his Family to his degree. Highly doubt he would ever leave Notre Dame.

Rees’ desire is to stay in South Bend at this time.
Yeah, until their new HC comes in and decides he doesn’t want him.

He is stupid to stay, 400,000 big one extra.

Now go get Herman
Dan Mullen anyone?!? Don’t you think he would love to f*ck Florida up for at least a year? Also the bigger get here is the defense coordinator. Marcus would be a absolute monster down here recruiting… I need that to happen.

They don’t even know if the new hc will want him. Weird.

If you’re an LSU fan and you’re not having fun the last 24 hours, you’re not an LSU fan…Or possibly just a miserable person with no friends.

How is Notre Dame going to keep him on staff 100% without offering him the HC job? No new coach is going to like not being able to assemble his own staff

It's going to be Freeman. Kelly might get 2-4 assistants to come with him.

They’re hiring Freeman imo
They probably just can’t announce yet because they want it to appear they at least gave it a couple day’s thought so as to not look like a rash/quick decision.

Odd for him to want to stay with no promise of being held over for new staff?
That is just it, I think Notre Dame is going to tell whoever takes the job certain coaches are staying put. Take it or leave it. That could also mean they are going to promote Freeman to HC. Some Reporter from the ND beat said as much on Jimmy Otts show a few minutes ago.
The Strength and Conditioning coach there, is already resigned and has the job regardless of who the new coach is.
