I suspect there are a number of boosters who would not be happy with Aranda because he's not a kiss arse politician.

top 5 job in the premier college football conference?

So why does LSU keep getting turned down?

Because LSU is not a Top 5 job. Top 15, yes.

Napier definitely knows how to build a program but wouldn't be a top 2 coordinator from an Xs and Os stand point if he were to be demoted. Aranda is basically the opposite. Definitely a top Xs and Os guy with question marks on his ability to program build. Both have a sky high limit if their weaknesses end up being minor in practice.

I also really don't see where everyone is seeing the bust potential with Napier. The danger with Napier is that he's Mark Richt. You'll never have a bad season but you'll also never make it across the hill. He's way too good at recruiting and gaining a locker room to be outright bad at LSU.

The dude is arrogant enough to keep calling plays on offense even though they pretty mediocre on offense.

If you push him to hire an OC he will only meddle.

At least with Lincoln the guy is actually good at calling an offense and Dave is good at calling a defense.

Absolutely this. Conversely Napier has clearly read tBinder and following that formula to a t. Unfortunately it seems that it may just work. I thought Woodward was stronger minded than that.

Riley is already talking to assistants to come with him to LSU? We are trying to find money to pay for his assistants?

Riley wanted to know the budget for assistants. That’s where LSU will be much better than OU at. He didn’t like the offer on that end. We are searching.

So we throwing 12 million for a coach but are scrambling for an assistant budget?

I doubt it.

So he didn't like what LSU told him? We pay more than anyone already for assistants.

Ball Champ is an OU fan. He’s saying OU didn’t offer as much for assistants as LSU.

It might have more to do with Louisiana politics than Woodward. Louisiana is a political hell hole.

Good point. I misread it.

I have a very hard time believing we didn’t offer enough assistant pool money. The only way I see us screwing up the assistant hires portion is if Woodward is making him keep some of our guys.

That would be the concern with Napier, yes. Too much talent that plays too hard to lose more than 8 games but not good enough scheme to win more than 10. Hence why I said the fear is being Mark Richt. But you're just assuming he'll do that at LSU where he can get whoever the frick he wants as OC. Napier is a better OC than anyone ULL can reasonably pull, so him calling plays at ULL doesn't mean much.

You're also completely ignoring the very real possibility that Aranda does a shitty job of program building. Riley has proven that he can recruit so I'm not worried there, but Aranda hasn't. No school actually recruits for itself. You can ask Florida how much fun it is to have a genius on one side of the ball with mediocre talent. I don't think Aranda is a tragic recruiter, but you're kidding yourself if you don't think that's a real question mark for him.

Also because I know you're going to say it, calling Napier a CEO coach is incorrect. He was in no danger of getting an NFL coordinator job at a good NFL team, but he's a very solid passing game guy. He gets too much flack for Dabo promoting him too early in his career. Saban called him to be an offensive analyst immediately after the ugly breakup and then hired him back as a position coach a year later for a reason.

Campbell? Refresh my memory, was he the coach of the team Napier's team beat to open last year. 31-14 if I recall correctly.

In more recent irrelevant news, Iowa State beat the shite out of a Texas team who beat the shite out of ULL.

A: You forgot the damned popcorn.

B: The transitive property never trumps head to head in football

C: Last year doesn't count is probably the best rebuttal.

D: I'd be OK with either hire and I am not sure who would be the better hire but Campbell has way more experience as a head coach.

We dropped the assistants budget with increase in Head.
