A win in the Lending Tree Bowl?
That would be a bigger accomplishment than those of the following coaches prior to their first day on their current jobs as HCs of a P5 program:
Lincoln Riley - Overall record 0-0, no bowl appearances
Ryan Day - Overall record 0-0, no bowl appearances
Kirby Smart - Overall record 0-0, no bowl appearances
Dabo Swinney - Overall record 0-0, no bowl appearances
Jimbo Fisher (FSU) - Overall record 0-0, no bowl appearances

Yeah, you did. Given the way you speak about Napier, it's admittedly a bit difficult to discern whether you're interested in dating him or having him coach LSU.

There’s a book called “The Score Takes Care of Itself”. It is the autobiography of none other than William Earnest “Bill” Walsh. None of these guys including Saban invented shite. Other coaches did it before them like Paul Brown.
Go read it. You’ll learn things like the West Coast offense if from freaking Cincinnati. Really interesting facts about HOW it was actually started and WHO spotted the opportunity to take advantage of movement.

With the exception of Kirby each one was hired in house.
With the exception of Dabo each one was an elite coordinator credited with a side of the ball that led a championship level power 5 program.
There was risk but lessened by being in house.
Each one of those were thought well enough in coaching circles to be getting a power 5 job but probably a lower P5 job (except for dabo but Clemson was a mid to lower P5 job at the time)
Why wasn’t billy given the reigns as a coordinator of an elite team?
Why wasn’t billy given the reigns at a mid tier power 5 program after his coordinator gigs? Also I don’t buy that he “turned down” state and ole miss when they hired kiffin and leach. Those were their top guys. Auburn? Auburn posters claim he was nowhere close to their list but
What on Billy’s resume puts him ahead of sonny dykes for instance? I can name several G5 coaches with more experience and with better results
If the answer is simply he worked with saban then that is very troubling.

He’s been on Moscona as well.

This is how marketing and networking works.
I guess that’s not something you’re used to.
ETA: just checked Jordys views on his last show. It’s 2.6K
That’s not counting podcast plays

Let’s look at Billy for what he really is. A pretty safe plan C if Lincoln says no and Lane melts down the stretch

First, none of what I’m saying is meant to be combative or argumentative. I have honestly come to really be intrigued by what I think Napier can do at LSU.
I enjoy the banter, opinions, etc. - helps pass the time until we know the answer and is entertaining. None of us truly know who the absolute best choice is, so it’s best to respect other takes, debate, and understand I’m guessing based on my own knowledge and research. On that note…
I’m not really seeing how this matters? In house coordinator vs HC of a G5 team with a great record, 10-wins in 2 of 3 seasons (likely 3 of 4). I kind of think the guy with a proven HC record might be the safer bet. Just my opinion, but…
This is also the case with Napier, 100%.
I don’t know. But he was a 28 year old OC at Clemson and had a really good offense. Admits he was probably not ready for that job, but he wasn’t an abject failure. He was hired as OC at Arizona St. Did a fantastic job, and Herm Edwards wanted to retain him after Graham was fired. Instead he took a HC job at 38. Perhaps he would have been hired as OC at a big program had he not chosen the head coaching route, we’ll never know.
I don’t think I’ve seen anyone here say he’s a good choice just because he’s worked 3 different time for Saban. It’s only been expressed that he’s developed a philosophy in part based on what he learned at Alabama - which ain’t bad if you ask me. So yes, I give him a thumbs up on that, but it’s how he’s developed it into his own approach that impresses me.
Seriously, anyone who has the time and is willing to spend it listening to interviews, press conferences, etc. of Napier will learn more about his philosophy and organizational view. I’ve watched several on YouTube, which is how I’ve formed a lot of my opinions on him as a coach. Don’t watch just one, but several - intro PC as ULL HC, post-game press conferences, radio interviews. He’s consistent. The radio interviews of late are not him campaigning for the LSU job. It’s him from Day 1.

Sounds like Napier has plan for everything except winning the Sunbelt Championship Game

Lol, well he had his team in the Championship game last year before it was canceled. And he’s probably headed there this year, so we’ll see.

If you hire an in house coordinator the program has recruited for their system the players in house know the system they so at least one side of the ball is taken care of.

“Really good offenses” don’t get fired. Clemsons offense was bad under Napier.
Arizona state was one year and mediocre iirc. Weren’t they in the 60s in total offense?

He got them to the Championship Game in 2018 & 19 and got smoked by App State

App St was a much more established program during Napier’s first 2 seasons at ULL. The fact he got them there is impressive.

This is 100% the case with Napier. He is “ thought well enough in coaching circles to be getting a power 5 job”. AND he has HC experience, while others had only coordinator experience. If you’re meaning as an OC he wasn’t viewed that way, fine. But it doesn’t change the fact that he is now.

Ok, ok, I’ll give you that. “Really good” was probably too strong. But the circumstances were that 2009 was Dabo’s first full season after Bowden was canned. It was Napier’s first as on OC. They didn’t have an extremely talented offense yet put up 31+ pts/gm. The next year they dropped a full TD per game, and Napier was fired. He is NOT that same coach today.
This is something he talks about where he admits he was way in over his head. He said at the time he only knew 2 offensive schemes, and wasn’t prepared to be an OC.

I don’t know the actual national ranking, but the offense improved something like 25 spots from the prior year. Someone please correct me if you know the specifics.

Gonna have to agree with basically everything Adam said
Napier could be the next big thing but when you drill down the resume isn’t stellar. Nothing to me really says coaching savant. He can talk and mimic Saban I’ll give him that but so could several of his old assistants. Many failed.
This search needs a sure thing and Billy isn’t that.

A lot of folks in the know seem to think he’s ready to be the guy, but I get that his resume doesn’t appeal to some.
I’d not be disappointed if he’s the pick. I’m more in the crowd that has looked into the guy because he’s not someone I knew a lot about. His name isn’t as big as Riley, Jimbo, etc.
Hell, Riley would be exciting, though I’m not 100% convinced he’d be “great”. Probably several guys could be. None of us know and probably won’t until the product is on the field for a season or two.
But I get both sides, and wherever he ends up I expect Napier to be an excellent program builder and winner.

Kiffin is at least REALLY highly regarded as an offensive mind.
So yes I think his resume is superior to Napier’s
