This reminds me of the hype built around Tom Herman. Herman was the next "Urban Meyer" ..... Right..... This feels like a very similar situation. "Napier is the next great coach"...... The next Saban.... Yea I dunno about this guy

Major difference is Napier has built something from not much and sustained it with a strong process.

Always felt Herman was a great risk. Must admit, I was disappointed when he went to Texas and we got O. Even so, knew he might be a flash in the pan.

Herman quit on the kids at Houston while playing LSU for a fool. Napier won’t do that. He’ll lead his team to another bowl win before deciding if he’ll take the LSU job.

So LSU is going to wait until after the end of the early signing period to hire a coach?

Herman had some major skins on the wall when he was at Houston though.

He beat FSU in the Peach Bowl, with a top 10 finish. He also opened the following season with a win over Oklahoma, and beat #3 Louisville with Lamar when it looked like they were cruising to the CFP.

Napier has Iowa State.

The same can be said about all of the candidates.

Harder to do what Napier has done at ULL than what Herman did at UH

Napier still hasnt won a conf title. Herman did it his first year with a 13-1 record, and won a NY6 bowl. Yet still flamed out at a P5

Napiers interview tonight was a dud. Woody will be working the phones this week, and Nape is prolly not on the call sheet, as of now

Let’s get three things straight:
1. Herman is an annoying weirdo Dabo cult leader wannabe
2. For this reason, I’m glad he was never HC at LSU
3. His biggest mistake was taking the UT job over LSU, because he probably would’ve won a natty here.

So... not really an insult to be compare someone to Herman, at least not in terms of “would this guy have done well at LSU”. Texas is where you send coaches to die.

Herman would have been better at LSU than Texas, IMO.

It's hard to win at Wake Forest, especially with their added academic restrictions, but I don't see much fanfare for Dave Clawson for going 6-0.

It's hard to win at Indiana, especially in the same division as Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Michigan State. But Tom Allen won B1G Coach of the Year last season, and I don't see us talking about him.

Those guys are actually in P5 conferences. I like Napier, but navigating past G5 schools at ULL doesn't necessarily mean he should get the LSU job.

Nah, some of these guys are who they are at this point. James Franklin is a middling to above average B1G coach but we think he’ll magically be dominant here. Napier is a rising star and we think he’ll continue to rise here. Jimbo had one great year at FSU but average to a little over average ever since. Riley is a winner but can he ever win the big game or field a competent defense.

They are ALL risks.

How was his interview vs. App State ? Coaches aren’t “interviewed” based on 1 game, they’re judged based on their entire body of work and in-game decision making skills. That game clinching 20 play drive, covering 90 yards, and milking the final 10:26 minutes off the clock was impressive. Napier is a very bright offensive minded coach. I just don’t think he’s Woodward’s big splash hire.
