Walked with 10 feet of Covid positive and they locked you up for 10 days in a small hotel room with a tray of food outside your door once a day. Could not leave the room. Worse than being in prison.

Its no use. This place is a shitshow. So much shite is based on who wins the weekend before. As soon as Napier and Aranda lose a game both of them will be off the watchlist

Doesn't mean it has to be as back and forth as So and So lost this week take them off the list.

None of these stats really matter, because of different circumstances. However, I see a trend with what I consider some of the top teams this season.

Total Offense YPG Avg

1. Ohio St.
5. Ole Miss
6. Alabama
24. Baylor
31. OU
34. UGA
65. Louisiana
90. LSU

3rd down conversion

2. Bama
3. Ohio St
18. UGA
35. OU
64. Baylor
78. LSU
86. Ole Miss
87. Louisiana

Offensive TDs

1. Ohio St (61)
2. Alabama (59)
OU (52)
UGA (52)
Ole Miss (49)
Baylor (46)
Louisiana (46)
A&M (33)
LSU (35)

Lester, you coach in the now, and you trust your coach to make good hires in the future.

Aranda failed at this already in just 2 years

That is my point. Why would you trust him? His sample size is small but there are red flags people are choosing to ignore

CFB has evolved to where no defense can consistently shut down the good offenses. It’s much easier to put together a defense that can slow teams down/force some turnovers than it is to piece together an offense to keep up with elite scoring teams.

This is somewhat true but not entirely. You still need a defense that can get stops consistently. You can’t fully rely on an offense to score every possession. Georgia for example, has a great defense and we’ll see if their offense can do enough and that is where I agree with you partially. There has to be a good balance between the two.

quote:

Take Daronte. Is he actually now some elite DC that finally figured things out? Or is he just a decent coach that realized hey I have some great athletes so let me move these guys around to create some chaos and maybe we can get enough stops to give our offense a chance against Alabama? It doesn’t take a genius to do that.

So, Peleni would work for you as a DC then? No one is winning championships with that shite arse fricking defense.

quote:

Offense, on the other hand, is harder to fake or just find something that works. It takes a consistent philosophy and, more importantly, consistently recruiting to fit that philosophy.

I agree, but you need the same thing on defense. You can’t just focus on one side of the ball and expect to win. Both will have off days and you have to be able to make up for it when one isn’t at their best. Thinking one sided like that is what you get in the Big 12 most of the time and why they can’t compete consistently.

quote:

A revolving door of OCs will condemn LSU to another decade of up and down years with little consistency when it comes to truly competing against the elites.

While I agree, the same is true on the defensive side of the ball. If you have a terrible defense and your offense has an off day, you’re fricked. If you have a consistent defense that can keep you in games, you always have a chance to win. That’s why you need a balance of both and not a top notch offense and terrible defense or the other way around. You’re always going to have to rely on coordinator hires one way or the other. Do you think we’d win the championship in 2019 with the 2020 Peleni defense? Doubtful.

NONE of this discussion on this site matters

NONE of it

I especially love the guys that read dozens of posts and see the ones they disagree with and then its “this board says” like there is ever some consensus on here

Remember this when Napier stans act like he’s an offensive and recruiting savant.

This is his performance with him calling the plays and the most talent in his conference.

Now think about how he would look if he didn’t have the most talent in his division (which would be the case here)

one would hire aranda based on pedigree and potential, like Baylor did

SW has zero track record of hiring based on potential, so unless he is changing his strategy Aranda is a no go for LSU HC

Offensive minds are also FAR more common these days

I agree. I think I would rather have an elite defensive guy as head coach who can slow down the offenses that Ohio state Oklahoma Bama run. They seem a lot harder to come by in the current state of CFB. Outside of saban, Kirby and aranda I can’t think of any other elite defensive minds off the top of my head.

but you compare say what Aranda did, to Lane Kiffin(who took over for a fired coach, in a much tougher conference), and you must ask how much further hiring an offensive minded coach goes. More of that in point 2.

Well thought out analysis.

ETA: but I am of the HC being a defensive guru first.

I don’t even care that much about his D at LSU

Seriously, you hire Riley to bring the offense to an elite level.

If he does that in BR, there will always be enough talent for any competent DC to keep teams from keeping pace if we’re putting up 40+ points a game.

1) Took over an 11-3 program, where the coach was poached, not fired, and went 2-7 in Y1, by a combined score of 131-218.

1) The Baylor roster was depleted after 2019. Just like LSU's roster. A lot of players left for the draft or were seniors.

2) Aranda was named coach on Jan 16, 2020. Publicly announced on Jan 20, 2020. When was signing day for 2020 recruits?

3) Rhule left a 50th ranked recruiting class on his way out of the door. His previous classes: 40, 29, 35, 50.

I've been 100% all-in on Aranda since before Ed even got the interim title. Aranda is going to prove out to be an incredibly powerful head coach at his next job.

And now the board has pretty much given up on him and just wants the guy from Chokelahoma, who isn't leaving there.

So now I'm just gonna kick back and watch. It'll either be a really good hire or a spectacular letdown.

This might be true but that doesn't mean that LSU should be gunning for him at this point

There is a difference in Pelini and finding a competent DC that can find a way to get key stops or timely turnovers to give an elite offense the room it needs to succeed.

Plenty of guys could come in and do what Daronte has this year imo.

quote:

I agree, but you need the same thing on defense

Maintaining consistent, or at least a workable, philosophy on defense through coordinator changes is much easier on defense than offense imo.
