Saban would have too little control at Pittsburgh for that job to interest him
I thought the Rooney's were great to work for adn pretty much left the coach/GM alone?
Also, he's an old West Virginia boy - Pitt is right in his backyard...

And why should we care about your opinion?

My opinion...Saban will only leave Bama for NFL job Well, everyone says he likes a challenge. IMO rebuilding Texas wouldn't be much of a challenge for him - he's already done that twice. The only mountain he hasn't climbed is the NFL. I think the fact that Harbaugh and Kelly have done it makes it harder for him to accept that fact that he hasn't done it.
His team of 5* blue chippers was just upset in miraculous fashion in one of the most hyped in state rivalry games in CF history. If he still does not view CF as a "challenge" then I'd be shocked.

In NFL land, they point to Saban as the reason why the NFL > CFB. A bad NFL coach is a god on the CFB level.
That goes right along with the worst NFL team is still an all star CFB team.
And I think Saban knows it. But I do think he still wants it, but it'd probably have to be something like the Cowboy$ and not Cleveland, Atlanta, San Diego type jobs. I don't even think the Giants would work, too tough of a market.

quote:The best coaches in the NFL (a club of which Nick Saban is assuredly not a member) don't make that money and would be laughed out of the building if they asked for a 1% ownership of a franchise. The idea that Nick Saban turned down the NFL for twice the money and fractional ownership is patently absurd.

You can tell this by his 2 years in the NFl? He didn't exactly light the world on fire going 2 games under .500, but that's also not terrible. Belichick and Pete Carroll come to mind as cocahes that had the same, or worse in Belichick's case, type records before they finally won big in the NFL.

For millions of dollars and not having to live in Alabama?

quote:I can tell you that if he felt like he had multiple year stability in the NFL, he wouldn't have come back to college to spend half of his time begging teenagers to play for him. I can also tell you that the idea that he would be given fractional ownership of a franchise (something that would get Super Bowl winners laughed at) in addition to a salary 25% higher than the highest paid coach in football, to coach the Browns is absurd.

If Pete Carrol makes it to the Super Bowl this year, and he certainly has the team and the potential home field advantage to get there, I think it will drive Saban over the edge.
I'm an LSU alum and fan till I die. Winning that title in 2003 and again in 2007 was magic. But the Saints winning the Lombardi Trophy is legendary, still now 3 years later.
How many crystal balls can he keep winning the tree poisoners? You can only chase the Bear for so long.

I think we also forget that the Miami team doctors told the team to pass on Drew Brees. One has to wonder if they had signed Drew how much that would have changed their situation and maybe the coach is still there.

He has got a perfect situation at Bama - he runs what is clearly the premier college football program and he has gotten them to the point that he doesn't really have to recruit, he just picks and chooses who he wants. He runs the program like he wants to with no interference from anyone.
Why would he want to leave that to start over at another school and do what he has already done before (twice)?
College coaches love to build things, not maintain them. Its much easier and more rewarding. Trying to stay on top is miserable for a coach because fans dont appreciate anything and even the players think it's their birthright to win championships. Its hard to motivate them to keep working harder. Meanwhile your rivals are gunning for you harder than ever.
Successful coaches get burned out. Look at any successful coach-Meyer, Spurrier, Holtz, even our own Skip Bertman.

I can tell you for a fact that our athletic department is more worried about the Houston Texans than the Texas Longhorns

Also it's not the perfect situation if the best you could ever do is finish in 2nd place in the hearts and minds of Updykes, Gumps and the normal Alabama fans.
