magic word "pretend"... Memphis is a flash in the pan, after JF is gone it's right back to being an also ran, ie..Tulane, USM, MTSU,etc...

Miami is better because they are in a power 5 but if USF an or U F move up to a power 5 and get the right coach they could pass Miami.

Meh, none of the available Big 12 expansion candidates are "great" options. The best one football-wise is completely in the wrong part of the country and complains about playing games on Sunday (BYU). At some point if the 12 in Big 12 is ever to have meaning again they need to choose the best of bad choices. Memphis gives them a geographic bridge to WVU and better basketball depth in case the league ever gets its shite together on Tier 3 monetization (aka a conference network) even if their football program goes back to shite.
The honest truth is the Big 12 blew their chance, Cincy plus Louisville would have been a perfect 11 and 12. But they missed on that so they need some warm body to package with Cincy and Memphis is in the right part of the country at least.
At the end of the day what matters is if Fox will pay for the extra teams. Maybe they at least consider doing that for Memphis now, when four years ago the concept was laughable.

If they go from AAC money to Big 12 money they should at least be able to be halfway decent in the Big 12. The budget jump would be very significant. Also, if they were taken it's likely they would end up in a Western division and wouldn't have to play the Texas/Oklahoma schools every year.

I think a lot of people don't understand how precarious Memphis is financially. The city, unto itself is a basket case. Corruption is rampant. Although UM is a state school, it's financially connected at the hip with the City and It's sugardaddy FEDEX. All it's going to take is for Fred to lose any financial incentive to remain in Memphis, and He's going to AFW. Memphis dries up and dies.

miami is a pretty good school. better than most schools in the sec, certainly better than lsu.

My quibble was with the usage of the descriptive term "great" in connection with Miami.

Money, Exposure, Recruiting Area.
UCF has 100x's more fans at games though. If they got into a P5 Conference and had more success, they could compete. They had 1 great season recently and won a BCS Bowl.

Miami (FL) is a very good school academically. Some very highly-regarded programs, and in no way is it behind Texas A&M or Georgia.

Miami is a much better school and the president thinks academics matter, so UCF is a better coaching job. Think in terms of Terry Bradshaw.

Miami is a very good school, not great value overall but has some strong programs. I'm sure each school is better than the others in some regard.

UCF is a much better job than Miami. Miami's administration has the football program on the fast track to be Tulane 2.0. Miami's facilities are bad and they have no stadium of their own. UCF doesn't have to worry about academic limitations, their facilities are decent and building a new football operations center and they play in the best of the G5 conferences. If I was a coach I would go to UCF before I would go to Miami.

You know, I actually agree with that projection so some extent, though they should always be better than that simply from being located in a football factory of South Florida.
Think how crazy this notion would be 10-15 years ago.
