More attractive opening: UCF or Miami

I actually think UCF.
-Bigger enrollment with lots of alum staying in the state.
-On-campus stadium, although it's not all that impressive
-It would probably be easier to succeed at UCF which means you could parlay that into a P5 coaching gig
I still think of Miami as a destination job and UCF as a stepping stone, but I don't think the administration at Miami is all in any more.

Here is all UM has left at this point.
-History "5 Rangs!!!!"
-Talent everywhere
-For some odd reason you still have misguided Miami parents trying to instill into their children that "It's all about da U!!!". Really not sure why people don't want their children to have more in their lives. Going to da U seems like excepting mediocrity and general trashiness.

I think Miami is the better job because of its conference affiliation, history and name recognition, but I'd also add that it's not at all the job that it used to be or that the average college football fan thinks it is.
Recruiting is there, but everyone plumbs Miami for talent now (thanks for Alex Collins and Denver Kirkland), their facilities are a mess, they don't pay, and they don't have support from the administration or alumni.

Miami. UCF could be a better fit for some coaches though.

Nah. If someone wants to win a national title UCF is a better bet because if they succeed there they have a chance to move to a Power 5 program that actually has a chance to win a national title (ie not Miami).

UCF
Less expectations and still in a great position to get in-state talent and win in a weaker conference and get called up to a big time job after a few successful years.
Miami is a shitty job. They have terrible fan support, a stadium an hour away, an uninterested student body and administration, etc.
All of that and they still have HUGE expectations because of the past.

I don't think expectations there are as huge as some think. Most of their fans that actually care just want a step forward that Shannon and golden didn't provide.
Edit: agree with the points that ucf would be a better stepping stone job. Ucf better for Campbell, Fuentes, or someone like that who is looking to move on to an elite job in a few years. If Charlie strong is picking between the two it's miami

One thing to consider is that UCF very well may be a P5 job within the next 5 years.

I think Memphis finally got successful enough to take that 12th Big 12 spot away from UCF.

Miami, by far. UCF was like an ESPN bowl- keep talking about it and then people believe it.

I would hope they don't base their choice off of two season under a coach that is going to be gone in two months.
But yes, I imagine they would be choosing from a pool of Cincinnati, Memphis, UCF and too a lesser extent BYU and Boise. Personally, I would rather see UCF squeeze into the ACC somehow because being in the Big 12 makes zero sense.

In time UCF will surpass Miami as #3 in Florida. It's already close.

The Big 12 has a limited lifespan imo. Texas and Oklahoma is going to get tired of being in, what will essentially be, the Mountain West should they expand. Exactly the same thing that killed the SWC.

Big 12 want's the exposure in FL for recruiting. Let's face it, UCF isn't joining the ACC or SEC anytime in the future, so it's P5 admission.

The Big 12 is the only conference that would consider UCF. Florida won't another instate school, and the acc won't add a third Florida school..But the big 12 wants in to the Florida market. UCF is their best option.

It would be more striking while the iron is hot. Cincy plus Memphis build a geographic bridge to WVU through worthwhile markets. Memphis has long been the best choice since they added WVU, the problem is Memphis has super sucked so they couldn't sell the addition. Now they have reason to pretend Memphis can be good enough to be added.
